Carol Brewer Shackelford will be remembered as a strong, independent woman, whose life reflected her Christian values with an attitude of a servant, and a heart filled with love and grace. Carol was born to William “Bill” and Mabel Brewer in the town of Blackfork, Ohio on August 22, 1936. She was the first of five children (one sister and three brothers).
Carol’s family moved to Victor, Colorado for a short time after her mother became ill, before finally relocating to Superior, Arizona. Though life was difficult at times, Carol managed to graduate from high school, while working several jobs at the same time to support living on her own.
Shortly after graduating from high school, she met the love of her life, David Shackelford, and they married in June, 1955. They had two beautiful daughters together, Alane and Jeanette. David and Carol moved to Globe, Arizona where they built a new home and life together, with Carol staying home to raise her daughters. In 1979, the family moved to Helena, Montana, claiming Helena as their home ever since.
Family meant everything to Carol. She fiercely loved each one, and fought to keep them all together. She succeeded. Carol instilled her deep love and devotion to family, as demonstrated by her husband and her daughter’s commitment to keep her at home with them during the final, most difficult year of her life.
Carol loved music and was gifted with a beautiful singing voice; gifts which were also passed on to her daughters. She was a master at crocheting, sewing, quilting, and gardening. Although she enjoyed music and handiwork tremendously, her greatest love was spending time outside in her garden and among the hundreds of trees she planted around the family home. Her legacy and love of God’s creation will continue on, with future generations enjoying the beautiful trees on their property.
Carol loved God with all her heart and cared so much for her church family. She believed in the power of prayer. She always served others with such grace, kindness, and generosity. When she smiled and laughed, you couldn’t help smiling and laughing with her. She will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanette L. Schlenske, her sister, Naomi Spicer, and brother, Robert Brewer.
Carol is survived by her husband of 58 years, David L. Shackelford; her daughter Alane Dallas; a grandson, Aaron D. Sark (Amber); and two great-grandchildren, Shelby and Brenner Sark (Helena) whom she dearly adored. Carol is also survived by her two brothers, Kenneth and Marlin Brewer (Arizona), and her beloved Aunt Olive Johnson (Columbus, Ohio).
Services will be held at the Helena Valley Baptist Church, 1315 Sierra Rd E, on Saturday, April 26th at 11am. There will be a reception luncheon following the service.

Vickie Orr says
Aunt Carol was such a wonderful person. She always made you feel good to just be around her. Of course most of my memories of Carol are from when I was a child and young woman. I’am so thankful that I was able to visit her two years ago. I know you will miss her terribly as I do my own mom. I pray you will find comfort in your memories as well as knowing she is home with her Lord. God bless you and comfort you both. Love, Vickie and Dennis Orr

Aunt Carol is now enjoying her reunion with her daughter, sister and brother, but most of all with her Lord. We will miss her and will continue to pray for those left who loved her most.
Love,
