Christopher “Chris” Lee “Bubba” Gleed left this world way too soon on Sunday September 6th, taking his life after a three year struggle with depression. Chris was born on May 5th, 1987 at Saint Peters hospital in Helena, Montana to Bill and Carol Gleed. Chris attended the Helena public school system, graduating from Helena High School in 2005.
Chris was active in sports from a young age, excelling at all sports he competed in, winning gold and silver medals at the Montana Junior Olympics, competing in statewide basketball tournaments, and kicking butt as a linebacker and running back in football. After high school Chris began honing his love of pool, playing much more seasoned players at O’tooles. This completion led Chris to become an avid pool player, winning many tournaments at the local and state level and competing in multiple world and international tournaments. Chris never found a game of pool he didn’t want to play, and it really did bring him great joy meeting and playing against everyone he had the opportunity to come across.
Chris was a kind and caring soul, always putting others before himself, every bit his mother’s son. It was not uncommon to witness Chris approach a homeless or less fortunate person and give them a pack of cigarettes, a beer, a bite, or even literally the shirt off of his back. To know Chris was to like him as he brought an infectious smile and unparalleled energy with him in everything that he did. Even though he left this world way too soon, in twenty eight years Chris touched the hearts of more people than most do in an entire lifetime.
Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents Bob and Jane Mook, Uncle Punky and Cousin Kyle. Chris is survived by his three geez, Garrett, Gavin, and Grace, parents Bill and Carol Gleed, brothers Robby (Roma) Gleed, Kory (Joscelyn) Gleed, and fur child Gabby. Chris is also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and the Helena pool community.
GLEED, Christopher L., age 28 of Helena passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015. A memorial service celebrating Christopher’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 11th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will follow at The Eagles Manor, 715 N. Fee Street.
Donations can be made to a Gofundme.com account set up to help the family with the cost of funeral expenses. The family would like to extend a special thanks to FOE #16 for their generosity and support during these difficult times. No words can ever tell you how sorry I am, nor could I ever understand what you are all going through…but what we all know is that Chris is playing unlimited games of pool, laughing and telling jokes, and smiling upon us all, but especially all of you! You raised an amazing person who will never be forgotten, so thank you for that. I’m glad I was able to have him as a part of my life! I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Gleed family. Chris and I were never really good friends, it’s not like we didn’t like and respect each other it’s just we ran with different crowds. But anytime our paths would cross, we would greet each other as if we were long lost friends. It saddened me to hear such terrible news. He was filled with so much life, and he brought so much happiness to everyone who he came into contact with. Chris, your spirit will live on in everyone that loved you, and even the people who didn’t. You touched so many lives, it’s sad to think someone so young in life was taken so early. Please rest peacefully.
Your friend, Colby Allen Sammons
