Sioux Roth says
MaryAnn, Katie and Alana:
May God, bless you and hold you close during this difficult time, guiding you to a place of peace.
Dan was quite the true Butte “Irish” guy. Dan’s work calendar always reflected, how many days until the next St. Patrick’s Day.
Dan always, had a great joke, (or two) and I know is sharing a few up in Heaven (with St. Patrick).
May your lives be ever enriched, by his terrific memories.

Helen Ann (Loggins) and Wally OConnell says
Oh, Mary Ann and family,
My heart is heavy for all of you! Knowing Danny from St. Patrick’s grade school in Butte, and keeping up to date with postings on FB, he was always a favorite friend of mine! I especially loved the old pics of Butte he posted, his last one brought memories of where my dad worked! He will truly be missed by all who knew him! Please know you all are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time!
Francisco J. Roman says
It was always fun to go monitoring with Dan. The way I remember him, Dan knew how to use his extensive knowledge of the English language when it was needed.
I will miss you, Dan…

Our hearts go out to you with Dan’s passing. I know he struggled. I know you and the girls struggled. But Dan gave it the very best fight he knew how to put up. He will be sorely missed at our poker table. His ready joke. His quick smile. His keen sense of the game. Be assured, the boys will hoist a few rounds in Dan’s memory.
If there is anything Kathy and I…or the collective Poker Boys…can do over the course of the next days, weeks and months, please, please don’t hesitate to call us (458-9614).

MaryAnn, Katie and Alana
I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. My favorite memory of Dan is that he hired me right out of college to work at Progress. From that began my career in applied behavior analysis. It was a world of data collection, graphs, repetitious trials and research papers. There were a few M & M’s in there too! Dan was so committed to proper research design. It was sweet how proud he was of his staff for learning this stuff! He made a real impact to advance many staff to a professional level. May his legacy live on through his children and grandchildren.
Hugs to you all, Jan.

Angela Branz-Spall says
Dear MaryAnn, Katie and Alana,
Here is how I remember Dan: a gleam in his eye, a mischievous smile, a great joke or tall tale, a kind word, a listening shoulder, a caring friend and colleague for many years. Dan always made my day whenever our paths crossed. We would often reminisce about our college days during the sixties at Gonzaga and the “Bubble Inn” (where, if I remember correctly, there was a stool with Dan’s name carved on it!). What a wonderful guy! What a loving husband, father and grandfather! They don’t make them any better than Dan McCarthy. I am truly blessed that he was in my life and I won’t ever forget him. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences and truest sympathy. Angela Branz-Spall

I was saddened to read of Dan’s passing. I worked with Dan at OPI for many years and will not soon forget him. He was a good friend at work. We had many great discussions about special education data (he was very adapt at keeping complex spreadsheets on all kinds of data). After his Rosie was born our discussions turned more to grandchildren. He was a dedicated grandpa and absolutely loved that beautiful little girl. I am sorry that I lost touch with Dan after I retired. He was a true character. I pray you find solace in your memories. May God bless.

Dear Maryann and McCarthy Family,
I am saddened by your loss of Dan. As a grade school friend of Tim’s I knew Dan was the younger brother that was never without a smile and about to break out in laughter. The McCarthy’s had a pool table in those days and an evening with Tim, Dan and the rest of the family remains a warm memory with me.
All of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Kiely Parker

Dan was a favorite of mine while we worked on collaboration between Head Start and OPI.

Mary Ann and Family:
Dan was “ona the good guys” for sure. I worked with Dan periodically for many years while he was at OPI. He was always kind and considerate of others, even when he disagreed with their ideas or philosophy. You, your children and grandchildren are very blessed to have had Dan as a husband, dad, and grandpa. His mark has been left. And how lucky for Montana that Dan lived and worked there.
Sincerely,
Maggie Bullock
Tom & Margarita Mchugh says
Just received the sad news from my brother that Dan had passed away. Our deepest sympathies go out to the wonderful McCarthy and Powers families. How the years have passed. Too long out of touch but never out of our fond memories are the wonderful times we enjoyed with Dan and Mary Ann in Montana and Utah (once), too. Dan’s intelligence, wit, humor, and kindness were a treasure. Dan and Mary Ann touched our lives in such a positive way. We are so blessed to have known him and it sounds like he never changed. Forever young, Dan.

I was so saddened to learn of Dan’s passing. A wonderful man is now in the company of angels. Dan and I worked together on early childhood issues for many years. He was a relentless advocate, and a positive and thoughtful voice for the kiddos of the state and the nation. He was also my friend and I will miss him.
John Copenhaver says
Dan was such a wonderful person, my association with him was through our work in special education. Dan was known and respected throughout the country in the area of early childhood education. i attended many meetings and events with Dan, when Dan talked people listened. i am sure his influence is still being felt today. I will miss Dan’s warm smile and wonderful personality. He was truly “one of the good guys”. i will greatly miss Dan, but his example will live on in my heart.

So special to hear about the bonds between Papa and grandchildren.
Brought smiles to recall the grocery store meeting when all our kids were teenagers (or displayed the behaviors of) and we shared the pain with Mary Ann and Dan.
He’ll be missed.
