Dorothy Mae (Anderson) Larson, 84, passed away on March 11, 2017 at the Cooney Home in Helena, Montana after battling Alzheimer’s for several years. She lived at Shelby House in Helena for 6 ½ years prior to moving to the nursing home.
Dorothy was born September 16, 1932 in Havre, Montana to Gordon and Gladys Anderson. She was raised and educated in Chinook, along with her three brothers.
She met James Larson, of Larslan, Montana, while working at the café in Chinook. James was working at the sugar beet factory at the time. They were married December 29, l949 in Glasgow. They lived on the family farm in Larslan for several years before moving to Scobey, Wolf Point, and eventually to Glasgow. James and Dorothy had four children, Jim, Lonny, John, and Dorvin. One of her greatest joys was her four grandsons, whom she adored.
Dorothy was a natural care giver. She worked at the hospital in Glasgow for several years before she and James moved back to the farm. They started wintering in Arizona shortly after that and loved their time there. When James passed away, she stayed in Arizona for a few years, working at the Good Shepherd Villa in Mesa as the manager of one of the assisted living cottages. After returning to Glasgow, she worked at the First Lutheran Church for a while before retiring for good. She continued to be involved with visiting people in the hospital and the nursing home. She was helping others up until the point she could no longer do it.
Dorothy loved cooking, gardening, working in her yard and bird watching. She was always busy doing something. She was always very involved in church activities wherever she was living. She was a devoted Lutheran, and her faith was very important to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1992, her parents, her step-father, Walter Bugden, three brothers, Bob, Jerry, and Don Anderson, her in-laws Jalmer and Rose Larson, and sister-in-law, Evelyn (Larson) Edwards.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Connie), Lonny (Shirley), John (Jan), and Dorvin, four grandsons, Ryan, Ian, and Kyle Opheim, and Dylan Larson, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Services for Dorothy will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 6th at the First Lutheran Church, 641 2nd Ave N., Glasgow, MT 59230.
