Dorothy Virginia Marcinek (87), passed away on October 5, 2014. Mom was born to Edward P. and Harriet Loranz on February 19, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. She had an older brother Edward J. Loranz (deceased). Mom moved 15 times during her school years before her family was lured to the gold mining in Marysville, Montana, and finally to Helena.
In 1946 at a barn dance, she met Aloysius Marcinek, when she happened to be visiting her cousin in Michigan. They were married April 19, 1947 in Helena, Montana. They were married for 67 years. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2014. They lived in Dorr, Michigan; Hollywood, California; and ended up in Helena, Montana. Mom was a bookkeeper for most of her life working for Western Life Insurance Company, Loranz Plumbing and the State of Montana. They raised five children, Bob, John, Jean, Mary (Mary was born on Mom’s birthday) and Carla. Family was everything to her. She supported all of us. Her nurturing ways taught us well. She loved to take us camping, and would stay with just us kids while dad would work. And in those days we tented! She loved to dance and us girls loved to dress up in her party clothes. Mom always made sure we never left the house without a sack lunch and dinner was always on the table. She was a great cook (infamous for her pound cake). She was an avid golfer, bowler, and loved to play bridge with her ladies bridge club of 40 years. She was the best mom and grandma to us all.
Surviving Mom is her sister-in-law Lucy Fifelski of Dorr, Michigan. Son Bob (Catlin) Marcinek of Great Falls; son John (Susan) Marcinek of Helena; daughter Jean (John) Horne of Helena; daughter Mary (Scott) Emge of Helena; and daughter Carla (Shannon) Scott of Mead, Washington; 20 Grandchildren: Sarah (Mark) Elliott, Jacob (Jessi) Marcinek, Rachel Marcinek, Jason (Dawn) Marcinek, Amanda and Makayla Schliemann, Liz and Lauren Samson, Joe (Natalie) Horne, Jim (Allison) Horne, Kyle, Steve and Eric Emge, Steven, Andrea and Trevor Scott. 11 Great-grandchildren: Josie and Emma Elliott, Sammie and Lyra Marcinek, Camden, Jet, and Riley Marcinek, Luci and Sawyer Horne, and Cole and Tucker Horne. Mom is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Our family would like to thank the Touchmark staff and Rocky Mountain Hospice for all their outstanding help with Mom. Mom was a member of the Cathedral of St. Helena. Memorials in Dorothy’s name are suggested to Rocky Mountain Hospice, 1075 N Rodney St #102 or the Cathedral of St. Helena, 530 N. Ewing Street. Mary and family,
I have such fond memories of your mom and dad and, though sad at your loss, so happy that they are together again, watching over all of you. They were such good parents and just good, decent people. We should all strive to be like them. Take care. Jeannie

Aunt Dorothy was always such a classy lady and so interesting! She always had a book to read when she came out and she was such an engaging person. I always enjoyed visiting with both Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Al. Must be so hard to lose both your parents in such a short period of time. With all my love and many blessings, Connie

Dear Cousins,
Uncle Al and Aunt Dorothy were always such a treat when they came out to visit!! To those of us in MI, Montana was a world away, and we were in awe of the relatives driving all that way. We enjoyed their wonderful stories, and were doubly impressed with the hardships they overcame in their life together. My sincerest sympathy at the loss of your parents, you had been great caregivers and now they are at rest. May God give you comfort and blessings. Janet Sage
