On the morning of October twenty fourth, 2012, Gaylene Faye Morgan-Hall passed away surrounded by her sons and brother at Saint Peter’s Hospital in Helena, Montana from complications of lung disease. Gaylene was 62 years old.
Gaylene was born on June twenty fourth, 1950 to Newman R. and Marjorie (Preston) Hall in Miles City, Montana. Her family lived and ranched in the Belle Creek area for a short time before they finally settled on their own ranch near Olive. Here Gaylene grew up riding horses, being picked on by her brothers and helping with the ranch chores.
Gaylene’s own mother was her kindergarten teacher and her teacher for the fourth through eighth grades. In 1968 she graduated from Powder River County High School. After high school she went to the Miles City School of Cosmetology. After graduating from cosmetology school she worked in various beauty shops in Miles City. Gaylene finally built her own beauty shop in Ashland, Montana and named it the Hair Hut. She later moved to Broadus, Montana and built a second shop, this one she named the Hair Hut II. Gaylene considered her customers as her friends and cut the hair of several generations of their families in her thirty five years of owning and operating her shops.
On June 7th, 1969, Gaylene married Robert (Bub) Morgan. They had two sons, Robert Newman Morgan and Brian Keith Morgan. Gaylene and Robert (Bub) divorced in 1990 but remained close friends until the time of her death.
Gaylene enjoyed spending time with her large family, fishing with her father, gardening, and playing board games and cards. She spent much of her time with her granddaughter, Sarah. Sarah shared many adventures with her “Gramma G”.
Gaylene belonged to a smoking cessation forum and eventually became a moderator for that website. She became close friends with several people from all over the US through her work with the forum. She also played pinochle every week at the Townsend Senior Center and was very active in the United Methodist Church of Townsend.

To Gay’s family, my deepest sympathies for the loss of your sweet Gaylene. Our lives have been enriched by knowing her. I had the privilege of meeting and getting to know her on the quit smoking forum on About.com where we were both moderators. I even got to meet her at two of the moderator reunions in Maine and at her home in Montana. Memories of both visits sit deep in my soul and each memory always include Gay. How blessed we all are for having this woman in our lives and may we all aspire to be like her. Gay, I love you. :*)

God Bless Rob and Bryan’s families and that you keep your Mother in your hearts for ever. She was truly a gem of a human, too quick to forgive and forget, and always so giving to others. I was blessed to have her as my “sister”. I will always think of Gaylene when I sit down to have an english muffin with buffalo berry jelly. She so loved being a Grandma, and loved her children and grandchildren always, never with a doubt. She was an example to all on how to be a good human being. I was envious of her relationship with her Mother and Father. She’s now in the loving hands of God, Margie and Newman. Love ya always Sis.

Gay was a lovely lady, inside and out, who will always be loved and never forgotten! Anyone who knew her was blessed to be a part of her life… She was fun, kind, unique, and a joy to know! She left many wonderful memories with us that we cherish and carry, forever in our hearts!! I met Gay on About.com Smoking Cessation forum, March 2003. She encouraged, helped and supported me and everyone in each message she posted. Gay had a way of making each person feel so important. That is a special gift to have the ability to extend! Gay, I celebrate your life with love and thankfulness that you touched my life and many, many others!! She was So Proud of her family and loved each of you, with her whole heart!! Sending deepest sympathy, caring thoughts, and prayers to each member of this special lady’s family! You all were held close to her heart, in every way possible!!! Hugs to you all~

Gay was such a wonderful person whom I feel honoured to have known for some ten years through the Smoking Cessation Forum. We never actually met (but were hoping to) but her sense of fun and selflessness came through in so many mails and phone calls.
This very special lady helped so very many people quit smoking and in any other way that she could. Gay holds an extra special place in so many peoples hearts and I will always remember her with much love.
Her family meant the world to her and I offer them my heartfelt sympathy and prayers at their precious loss.
Love you Gay xxx
