Helen Beatrice Stephan Delger passed away on the evening of May 21st, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena, Montana.
Helen celebrated her 93rd birthday on April 14th with her children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Helen was born April 14th, 1923 to Louis and Anna Stephan, in Great Falls, Montana. She grew up in Great Falls, and graduated from Paris Gibson High School in 1941. Helen worked at the Electric City Conservatory prior to her move to Townsend. Helen married Ike Delger on February 16, 1946; they bought the family farm in Townsend and Helen lived on the farm until 2006. While in Townsend, she was a cook at Town Talk then a store clerk at Frylings and Berglinds Department Store until her retirement. She then started her quilting hobby with her daughter, Joan. She continued quilting past the age of 90.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ike; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and John Schritz; granddaughter, Kristie; siblings, Tom (Doris) Stephan, Annie (Harold) Leigland and Jen (Sal) Leigland.
Helen is survived by her children, Patrick Delger, Kay (Jerry) Malerich, Harvey (Nancy) Delger, Peggy (Doug) Lienemann, Allen (Gail) Delger, Beth (Ken) Lamping, Mike (Julie) Delger, Lois (Jeff) DeMars, Nancy Delger; 23 grandchildren and 25 (soon to be 26) great grandchildren.
One of the highlights of her life was during WWII, she took flying lessons and did her solo flight on Friday, October 13, 1944.
A service celebrating Helen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 26th at Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 212 Broadway in Townsend. A reception will follow the memorial service at the American Legion, 211 Broadway also in Townsend. A private family burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Helena. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Helen’s name are suggested a charity of your choice or to the Senior Citizens Dinner Club, PO Box 693, Townsend, MT 59644.
