In the early morning of October 5th, 2017 Joseph “Joe” Thomas Hooper passed away peacefully at Rosetta Senior Living in Helena MT. Joe was born in Helena on April 1, 1923 to George and Lydia Hooper. His namesake was his uncle Joseph of Lincoln MT.
After his father died, his mother remarried and they moved to a ranch at Deep Creek. He graduated from Broadwater High School in 1942. He moved to Portland to work in the shipyards during WWII.
Joe met Naomi Larsen, the mother of his two children, in Montana while working on a construction project., Joe worked with large machinery, was an experienced welder and worked for Kaiser Permanente. People marvel at his superior wood working skills, both carving and skill saw work. He was active in many clubs and organizations including the Flying Tigers remote controlled airplane club, Treasure State Wheelers RV chapter of Good Sam’s, Last Chance Square Dance, the Eagles and Elks. Joe also volunteered at the Helena Senior Citizen center.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Naomi and daughter; Lydia Wilson. He is survived by his wife Pauline; her son and daughter; Tom Streets and Linda Streets; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his son Joseph(Sara) John Hooper, and grandchildren, Allyson (Martina) Hooper, Joseph(Sequoia) Everest, Wally(Gail) Wilson, Lisa (Kelly DeWolf) Wilson, Thomas Hansen and Robert Hansen. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Rosetta Assisted Living for the exceptional care they gave Joe.
Viewing will be at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will follow the service in the social hall of the funeral home. Burial will follow the reception at Forestvale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s name may be made to the Lewis & Clark Humane Society, P.O.
