Lloyd P. Casey, age 90, of Helena, Montana passed away on Sunday April 26, 2015 at his home.
He was born to Alfred and Ida Casey on November 13, 1924 in Fallon, Nevada. He married Helen L.
Hannifan on April 7, 1946. They had 10 children in Nevada until moving to Montana in 1964.
His favorite pastime was HORSES, HORSES, HORSES, anything he could do from the back of a horse was perfect. As a young boy he spent many hours mustanging with brother, Alfred and his Uncle “Wild Horse” Casey, later as a young adult turning to team-roping, calf-roping, and rodeoing with Alfred. As a result of all that mustanging our Dad trained and kept many of these horses as great horses for the family. We all have a love of horses from one extreme to the other thanks to our Dad. Even after moving to Mt with 5 horses he kept on trail riding and competing in O Mok Sees well into his 80s with friends, family, and lots of grandkids.
Our Dad was in the US Army, 101st Airborne Division from 1943-1946 being in many conflicts in Europe during WWII which included areas of Ardennes, The Rhineland, Central Europe and The Battle of Bastogne. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations to include Parachutists Badge, Marksman Carbine Badge, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Bronze Arrowhead Medal, Netherlands Orange Lanyard, and Distinguished Unit Badge during this time.
After he married our Mom in 1946 he began ranching in his hometown and also worked for the City of Fallon, and The Petrolane Gas Co, until 1964. At that time they moved to Montana and he began working in the logging industry, always outside until he retired at 62 and then he was able to ride horses full time.
Lloyd is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Casey, his son David G, 2 daughters Betty J, Judy K White, and granddaughter Kathy R Mowrey.
Lloyd is survived by daughters Barbara Chasson (Leroy-deceased), Gail Brown (Jim), Dorothy Lyght (Dave), Janet Harris (Jim), sons Mike Casey (Loni), Bob Casey (Gayle), Cliff Casey, and son-in-law Lester White. 23 Grandchildren, 51 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family is not having a service at this time but will have a Celebration of Life at a later date. If you wish, a donation can be sent to the Helena Trail Riders Club PO Box 4801, Helena Mt 59604 in Lloyd’s memory.
We love and will miss you greatly Dad and Granpa.
