Margaret (Peggy) Elizabeth Edgar, 65, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2017 at her home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Margaret was born on January 24, 1952 in Orange, New Jersey. She was the youngest child and only daughter of Carl and Margaret Hammond. Margaret lived in Newark with her parents and two older brothers. When Margaret was ten, her family moved to Brick, New Jersey. After graduating high school, she attended Ocean County Community College. There, she met her future husband and the love of her life, James Raymond Edgar.
Margaret and James were married on August 26, 1972, at the Cathedral of the Air at NAS Lakehurst, New Jersey. Together, they had six children. Throughout their marriage, Margaret was a devoted mother to her children, and military wife to her husband during his Navy career. Margaret was also a daycare provider to numerous children, including several of her nieces and nephews.
After James’ retirement from the Navy, they moved their family to Montana. They lived for a short time in Missoula, and then moved to Helena in 1992. Margaret was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Community. She volunteered at the church in many capacities, including as a religious education teacher, baking bread for Sunday Eucharist, and laundering linens. She also volunteered faithfully for the church’s annual Thanksgiving basket drive, and the Giving Tree at Christmas.
Margaret loved life and lived it to the fullest. She always welcomed another person to the dinner table, and family knew no limits. Margaret enjoyed sharing a cup of tea with her loved ones. She also had a deep love for her seventeen grandchildren, the eldest being born in 1998, and the youngest due in August, 2017.
Margaret is survived by her loving husband, James, along with her six children: James (Katia) Edgar, of Chalfont, PA, Jeannette (Jason) Brown of Kenosha,WI , Carl (Monica) Edgar of Helena, MT, Andrew (Diane) Edgar, also of Helena, Anna (Scott) Hemmer of Shelby, Montana, and Molly (David) Griffenberg of Honolulu, Hawaii. She is also survived by her two older brothers, James (Debra Ann) Hammond of Delran, New Jersey, and Lewis (Christine) of Brick, New Jersey. Margaret is survived by her grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peg always had a smile on her face and hello to all. I had the opportunity in the last few weeks to take communion to her and that smile was still there. She was a kind, loving and giving person and it reflects in her children. Saint Mary Catholic Community will miss her volunteering, her smile and her presence. I am honored and blessed to have known her.
Thoughts and prayers to Jim and to her children. Blessings.

Mary says
Heaven received a precious angel and she is free from the cancer and sitting at the feet of Jesus. I know she is smiling with the same wonderful smile I see ever time I think of her. We can not be sad for her but the hole in our hearts, left by her passing, makes it so difficult for all those who love her. My love and prayers go out to you, Jim, and all your family. Holding you close.
