Marian Irene Rude
On the morning of May 15, 2013, we lost our beloved mother, grand-mother, sister and friend. Marian passed away peacefully at 80 years old from natural causes.
Marian was born on May 30, 1932 in Fosston, MN. She was the eldest of seven children born to Arthur & Alice Edevold. At an early age, Marian took on the role helping raise her younger siblings and to help her dad on the family farm. Marian was confirmed at the United Lutheran Church, Burner MN in 1947.
Marian met the love of her life, Art, while waitressing in Gonvick, MN. They married on May 26, 1951, and then started their journey of 53 years together, moving on to Wolf Point, MT, working in ranching and construction, and starting their family. Travels brought them to North Dakota, Washington and back to Minnesota. Their love for Montana took them back to Helena in 1962, where they called home.
Marian held many jobs and took pride in all; The Sundry Shop, State Girls Correctional Center, and cooked at various restaurants, her favorite the White Mill.
Marian’s love for her family and friends always led to an open door and surely a full belly. She loved sewing, arts and crafts, gardening and always had the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood. Her greatest joy in life was being with her family, cooking and making sure everyone had a good time. Her specialty was a Norwegian flatbread known as Grandma’s Lefse. She was an amazing woman and will be greatly missed.
Marian was preceded in death by: husband, Art Rude; sister, Linda Sutherland; brother, Vernon Edevold and grandson, Richard Greene.
Survivors include children, Dean (Nancy) Rude of Clancy, Donna (Richard) Greene of Townsend, Darcy Rude Hazen of Helena, Darryle ( Sheila) Rude of Draper, UT; sisters, Janice (Paul) Neil, Gladys (Rodger) Edvenson; brothers, Wallace Edevold, Kenny (Kathy) Edevold; in-laws, Dorothy Nelson, Adeline Ness, Tony Rude, Victor Rude; Grandchildren, Nikia (April) , Chase, Mark (Leah), Jason (Casey), Jennell, Caylin, Paul, Josh, Brooke, and great-grandchildren; Taylar, Hope, Mason, Kayden, Gavin, Tyr, Drake and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the staff of the Shelby House and close friend Pat Dralle for taking such good care of our beloved Marian.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave, Helena, MT. Burial will take place at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Helena Food Share, PO Box 943, Helena, MT 59624.
