Marjorie Nichols died Wednesday, August 13, of natural causes in the tender care of Aspen Gardens where she had been a resident for the last five years. She was born to Hilma and Phillip Fish on December 10, 1928 in Westhope, North Dakota. She was an only child who grew up on the family farm near Maxbass, North Dakota, where she went to school. She graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Business Education and later received her Masters in Education from the University of Montana.
She taught high school business classes in a variety of locations in North Dakota, Montana and California, before marrying Harry Nichols November 17, 1962 in Missoula, MT. She stepped into a ready-made family with Harry’s daughters, Vida and Linda; son, John was born several years later. Marjorie was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, and a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ.
She was active in her church over the years, from Our Redeemer’s Lutheran, to the Evangelical Covenant, and finally the First Assembly of God. She was a leader of Christian Women’s Fellowship and active in Republican Women, Eastern Star, and National Association of University Women.
She was an advocate for education for her children, encouraging them to finish their education and apply their talents to their workplaces. She was a supportive partner to Harry in his business and ranching ventures. They enjoyed many years of living in the Helena valley and made a number of friends and enjoyed the company of their neighbors. Harry preceded her in death in February 2006.
Marjorie made the holidays special for her family with a splendid assortment of Christmas cookies, decorations, festive foods, games, cards, and gifts. Easter always included special treats from the Parrot, Easter egg hunts and baskets with fun toys and candy.
She is survived by her son John (Chris) Nichols of Helena, daughters Linda (David) Fuson of Billings, and Vida (John) Poling of Billings, her grandchildren Harrison Fuson, Kaitlin and Amber Nichols, and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
