Ruth V. Daggett passed away peacefully in her sleep into the arms of her loving Savior on October 10, 2017. Ruth, daughter of John and Katie (Peters) Freese, was born on July 14, 1925 in Jackson Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized on April 18, 1926 at the Presbyterian Church near Breda, Iowa. She lived in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Utah, and Washington, through her growing up years.
Ruth was united in marriage on Sept. 9, 1949 to Maynard Daggett. They were blessed with two daughters, Darla Kay and Nancy. They resided in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Brandon, South Dakota, Monticello, Minnesota, Fargo, North Dakota, and Lake View, Iowa throughout their marriage. She loved her work as a school lunch server and manager for the Brandon Valley School district, during her children’s school years. Together they lived in 5 houses that Maynard designed and built. Their last house in Lake View, Iowa was remodeled by Maynard before his passing on July 6, 1991, following nearly 42 years of marriage.
Ruth had an active social life, friendly and caring, which earned her a wealth of friends in every city she resided. She was an avid bowler, golfer, Bingo and card player, along with participating in church and community activities. She enjoyed reading, quilting, crocheting, crafting, gardening, camping, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader while her daughters were in grade school. She belonged to the United Church of Christ in Lake View, Iowa and happily served by providing meals and baked goods for funerals and church events. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Brandon, South Dakota and American Legion Auxiliary in Lake View, Iowa.
In November of 2013, Ruth moved to Helena, Montana to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared her life and will be greatly missed by her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Donald Polly, 3 grandsons, Jonathan and wife Diane, Jeffrey and wife Kerry, and Andrew, granddaughter Melissa and husband Tim Kosena, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Brothers Harvey, and Kenneth and wife Vesta, Sister Gertrude and husband Robert Nansteel, sister-in-laws, MaryEllen Blake, Lucille Austin, Eleanor Sturdevant, and Marcene Klesse.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents John and Katie Freese, brother; Marvin Freese, sister-in laws, Marjorie and Marge Freese and Marie Freese, daughter; Darla Kay, and great grand-daughter Rylan Polly.
A service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14th at Friendship Baptist Church, 5 Friendship Lane in Montana City. Please see below to offer a condolence to the family or to share a memory of Ruth.
