Thane Gerard Brandt, 43, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena of complications of a glioblastoma.
Thane was born July 25, 1971, in Conrad, MT to Gary and Susan (Habets) Brandt. He attended school in Shelby until his Senior Year when his family relocated to Cascade. After High School, Thane attended and graduated from Radiology School at the Columbus Hospital in Great Falls.
In 1994 Thane married Kathy Olszewski in Great Falls. They found their home in Helena where Thane worked at St. Peter’s Hospital and Kathy pursued her career in teaching. They soon found their home overflowing with love when they were blessed with 3 wonderful boys – Zachary (16), Connor (13) and Ryan (10). Thane loved being able to pass on his love of hunting, fishing and sports to his boys. On Saturdays during the football season he could most likely be found watching the Michigan Wolverines and yelling at the television.
Thane is survived by his wife Kathy, sons Zachary, Connor and Ryan, mother Sue Brandt, sister Amber Brandt, brother Shale Brandt, maternal grandfather Leo Habets and a large group of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew, Father Gary Brandt, Paternal Grandparents Glenn & Olive Brandt, Maternal Grandmother Sally Habets and Niece Gianna Bliss.
Visitation will be held 10 am to 3 pm on Friday, March 6, at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana, Helena. A vigil will be held at 5 pm at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 1502 Shirley Road. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am Saturday, March 7 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. A reception will immediately follow in the social center of the church. Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Great Falls on March 14 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up for Thane’s boys at Helena Community Credit Union. Please make any checks payable to Kathy Brandt and mail to Helena Community Credit Union, PO Box 159, Helena, MT 59624.

I am so deeply sorry to hear of the loss of Thane. I worked with him at the hospital, 10 years ago. He was very kind to me always. And through the years, he would always stop and say hi to me. He would never hesitate to take the extra time and provide TLC towards myself and family members, during the times we needed him as a tech. I will miss running into him & hearing how his beautiful family is doing. My heart is with his wife and children, and all those lives he touched.

I taught Thane in Shelby during his middle school years. Always a really smart kid and funny! When I saw the photo of him, I noticed that his eyes had not changed at all – still that blue, and still with that twinkle! Sue – I am so very sorry for your loss. If he was anything as an adult like he was as a middle schooler (and I’ll bet he was), the world has lost a good person. My prayers go out to all of you…

I work with Lori Nelson & would like to say that my heart & prayers go out to your family. When we lose a loved one here on earth, we gain an angel in heaven that watches over us. A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on. Time heals broken hearts; but the love & beautiful times spent together will remain in your hearts always, let these times bring you smiles of comfort knowing that your family was blessed with the time spent together. I bless and send your family with lots of Angels hugs throughout this journey. 🙂

Kathy, Zachary, Connor and Ryan, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.
Thane was awesome to work with. Before he was diagnosed with the cancer, we would periodically work together. I worked as a Patient Care Coordinator (Shift Supervisor) at the hospital. I would often call him in on the weekends when he was on call. Sorry.
But he was very caring, conscientious, happy, compassionate, and awesome to work with.
I know that this has been a long battle…for all for you. I am so, so sorry. You all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. <3
