Theresa Mae (Standing Soldier) Susag
On the morning of September 24, 2016, Theresa Mae Susag, age 59, passed away peacefully at her home in East Helena, MT after a year-long battle with cancer. She wasn’t in any pain and was surrounded by loved ones, the way she always wanted it.
Theresa was born on April 1, 1957 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Helen Diane Johnson and Martin Robert Standing Soldier.
Theresa was raised by her beloved grandmother Mae Standing Soldier after losing her loving mother at the age of six. In high school she moved to Helena, Montana and graduated from Capital High School in 1976. She soon met and married the love of her life Kevin Susag. In 1987, the light of her life, her son Nathan Susag was born. Theresa loved to take Nathan to visit his grandma Eleanor Susag nearly every day when he was little. This was some of the best times of her life. She worked numerous and varied jobs over the years. In 1998 she found her last job and true calling as a casino floor runner. A job she had for nearly 20 years. She even once foiled a robbery attempt at one of the casinos by running to go call for help when the robbers weren’t looking. Getting to know and befriend people was one of her passions. So doing it as her job was even better. It wouldn’t take more than a few minutes of talking with her to realize she was one of the most caring and wonderful people you would ever meet. The only thing she loved more than people was animals, with a particular fondness for her many cats she had over the years. She seemed to have ESP, if she thought or talked about a person she hadn’t seen in a while even if it had been over 10 years ago, she would run into them over the next few days. This never ceased to amaze Theresa or those around her.
She is survived by her siblings Janice and Mitchell, her son Nathan, ex-husband and good friend Kevin, cousin Rose and too many to list other treasured friends and family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, adored grandparents Mae Standing Soldier, Harold and Eleanor Susag, her beloved aunts and cherished cousin Doug Morrison.
If you knew Theresa, you know she was as wonderful as she was stubborn. She didn’t want a traditional ceremony or memorial. She wanted everyone to remember her in their own way. If you would like do something for her, please donate to your local animal humane society and show kindness to someone who looks like they need it. This would have made her happy. Betty & John Brewer says
Kevin, Nathan and your whole family. I am so sorry for your loss. Words can never ease the pain or change anything but I want you all to know that Heaven gained a beautiful Angel today. Theresa was the sweetest wife, mother and friend anyone could ever ask for. She always had that beautiful smile on her face and that twinkle in her eyes. She always was there to help anyone who needed help and always gave of herself to her family. She will be missed by so many but will remain in the hearts of everyone she ever knew.
I want you to always remember the memories you shared with her and never ever forget how much she loved you all. Her legacy lives on in you and she will never be forgotten. I pray that God grants you each peace and comforts you in your grief. Lean on Jesus and let him hold you up when you don’t think you can take another step. Let him carry you when you are too tired to walk. Walk beside him when you need his arm and always remember how much he loves you and is right there beside you.
Theresa is now dancing peacefully with the angels and she is no long in any pain or discomfort. I know that does not ease your pain but I pray it gives you some kind of solace at this time.
I love you all so much. My prayers continue for you and your family always. I am always here for you. Love you bunches. Betty & John
