Those we love, never go away. They live in our memories we made every day. On July 7, 2017, Wayne Evan Hintz passed away at his home in Helena, MT surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer. Wayne was 69 years old.
Wayne was the eldest child of four born on October 6, 1947 in Elgin, North Dakota to Edwin and Esther (Sprecher) Hintz. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1965. He proudly served in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant, stationed in El Paso, Texas and Okinawa. In 1970 he married Carol Swenson and to this union they had 3 daughters. They later divorced. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1973 with a Masters in Accounting. In 1975 he moved to Helena, MT where he established his CPA practice. He loved being a CPA and enjoyed talking with his clients as much as he liked doing their tax returns. In 1999 he met Mary Ann Myndio; they married in 2000 and united their families.
Wayne lived life to the fullest. In 1982 he earned his pilot’s license and loved to soar over the Montana mountains. He was always up for playing cards and was an avid and competitive, duplicate bridge player. He joined the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) over 40 years ago. He earned his live master rank in just a few years and became an accomplished player who relished playing in regional and national tournaments. He also liked to root on his favorite hockey and basketball teams, sometimes with a few swear words thrown in to help ensure a win.
Wayne believed strongly in civic duty and was a dedicated member of Toastmasters, America Legion, and the Lions Club. Additionally, he was appointed by the Governor to the Montana Society of Public Accountants. Wayne served as a Post Commander in the American Legion Post #2, and also served twice as the Lions Club District Governor. He was sure to try to sell you some oranges, grapefruits, lightbulbs, broomsticks, dried fruits and nuts always with the intention to help benefit others. It was through Lions Club where he met his beloved wife, Mary Ann. Wayne was also a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Methodist church and attended church regularly.
Most of all, Wayne loved to travel. A trip to Alaska checked off state #50 and accomplished his goal to visit all 50 states. He also visited 4 continents and 36 countries, with his most recent adventures taking him on a church trip to the Holy Land and to the Dominican Republic. He loved seeing the world and meeting new people.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; his daughters Tanya, Tara, (Danny Riskam), and Tamara; step-children Shelly, Lisa (Shawn Bates), and Jayson (Candace Roth Myndio); his siblings Rona Reis, Jerry (Rita Sarma Hintz), and Gail (Del Petrick). He will be missed by his 5 nieces and nephews, 6 grandchildren, and countless friends and extended family.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave., with a reception to follow the service in the social hall of the funeral home.

Love to Wayne’s friends and family. Wayne was on all of our minds and hearts at the Butte bridge tournament on June 23. We were sad he was not well and prayed for his recovery. We passed a card to send to him and said how much we missed not having him with us. He had a brilliant mind, but more than that, a big heart. At least in the serene place he’s going, he’ll have no shortage of good partners for his next foursome. Jack O’Leary and others will greet him at the gate with a joke and a warm welcome – and they’ll remind hm that newcomers have to do the shuffling. Brent

Maryann and family we are so sorry for your loss. All of our thoughts and prayers are with you through this time. I can honestly say the short time I got to know Wayne was a blessing. One of my most memorable moments was when I was sent to salt lake for work and I was fortanate enough to sneak out and meet him and jerry for supper and take a tour of where Wayne was staying. I experienced Greek food for the first time with them. The whole time at supper I was trying to find out how Wayne was doing but typical Wayne in my experience it wasn’t about him. He was so concerned about how my wife “danielle” was doing and my family. He had a heart that was unexplainable, he not only showed he proved how much he Cared about others! The things he said, the things he done, the spirit and love he showed to his family and friends Is unexplainable! I was so thankful to have Wayne speak at our wedding and will never ever forget that. Wayne was a very special man and will always hold that special spot in my heart for the concideration and thoughtfulness he always showed us. Wayne I’m going to miss you dearly but I can’t thank you enough for the love, passion and concern you always showed to my wife and I. I was so blessed to have you in my life. I’m gonna miss giving you crap about stealing my comb lol. I can’t say enough about you my friend, may our hearts be with all of you who knew Wayne through this time. Love you my friend.

I was so saddened to hear about Wayne. I enjoyed working with Wayne every year and meeting you. Wayne was one of a kind – one of the smartest accountants I had the privilege of working with but so easygoing and fun. The world is a better place having had Wayne in it. I will miss working with him.

The person that told me about Wayne’s passing was Justin Keller a coworker of mine. The only time I met Wayne was at Justin and Danielle’s wedding. Not knowing Wayne at all but it felt like his words fit so well as he spoke that beautiful but very warm afternoon. I did not know that Wayne served his country as I did. If I would of known that I would of asked him of his worldly travels in the Army. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Thank you Wayne for serving this country. God Bless.

Mary Ann, you are both in our prayers. Wayne always was a strong Lion and lived his life according to the motto, “We Serve.” He was always such a nut fan for “Leader Dogs” eating several bags by the time the campaign was over.

Shelly Johnson Says:
Wayne and Gail audited our financials in Bozeman every 2 years. We always went to lunch and Wayne would share his stories of wherever he had traveled since the last time I had seen him. He would bring in garnets and other gems ,that he had picked up while traveling, to show the staff. They loved it. He would always say he was watching his diet when ordering lunch but would sneak pieces of my cottage cheese pancake off the plate. Wayne spoke of Mary Ann and his daughters fondly. Wayne was a great auditor with a big heart and I will truly miss him. Shelly Johnson, Bozeman, MT

Mary ANN & Family:
So sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. Through Lions I knew Wayne for more that a quarter century, and am aware that he was always up for a game of bridge, or just to share an idea on how to make our organization stronger, or just to talk about life. The Helena Lions have lost a great member, and all Lions worldwide have truly lost a friend.
Heartfelt sympathy from Patricia and myself.

Just Learned of Wayne’s passing, so sorry for your loss, Wayne was a friend and trusted advisor to us for over 24 years. His loss is deeply felt. We will certainly miss entering “Wayne’s World” with our bag of documents and receipts to have him make sense of all of it and prepare our taxes. He was always a great help and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in your time of need.

I don’t know Wayne but feel a kinship with any CPA small firm practitioner who fights the good fight for his clients and for the profession. Sorry to see him go. Like so many of my classmates we are now closer to the ending than to the beginning. It appears Wayne lived life fully all the way to the end. God bless him and his family.

Wayne, I loved you as a dad. Shared great memories, e.g. in Brussels shortly before you went to find your eternal peace. Huge hug, Jelle
