William P. Benjamin
William Benjamin, 67, died peacefully January 14, 2013, in the Critical Care Unit at the Montana State Veterans Hospital, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Bill was born on May 7, 1945, in Harlowton, the sixth child of ten to Glenn and Lucille (Hudson) Benjamin. He received his grade school education at Ryegate and continued his education in Helena.
He served honorably in the US Army, active service September 1965 – September 1967, and again in June of 1991.
Bill married Marie Smith in 1968. They were married for 36 years before her passing in 2004.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Lucille Benjamin; wife Marie; brother, Glenn Benjamin and Jerry (T-Bone) Benjamin; sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Merle DuBois and nephew James Boyer.
He is survived by his children, Tonya of Helena and son, William (Stacy) of Spokane, WA; Step children, Debra D. Sutliff and her husband Jim of Billings; Robert M Burgess of Billings, Richard M. Burgess and his wife Raquel of Helena. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Jane (Ed) Cottrill of Helena, Glenda Grover of East Helena, Mary Ann (Sonny) Boyer of Great Falls, Brothers, Stillman Benjamin of Great Falls, Orville (Bev) of NV and Stewart (Gay) Benjamin of CO; sister-in-law, B.J. Benjamin and an Aunt, Irene McCarty of CA. He was “Uncle Bill” to numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Bill’s family will be forever grateful for the compassion shown with the end of life care he received in the Critical Care Unit at the VA hospital.
Burial with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. At Bill’s request, there are no memorial services planned at this time. Please visit below to offer the family condolences or share a memory of Bill.

There are a millionaire’s great memories of my uncle Bill and he is going to be missed by all. I know he is reuniting with all his friend and family that have passed. I am so selfish for being so sad but I miss my uncle Bill He was a wonderful man. He always made me smile!! I gave him a graduation picture of me 20 some years ago and every time I seen him he showed it to me …this made me feel so good a few years ago I had to replace it because it was so worn. He called me shar bear. I can tell you…I WAS ALWAYS PROUD TO BE MY UNCLE BILL’S SHAR BEAR!!!!
