Alexine “Lois” Buchanan, age 95, of Helena passed away Wednesday March 19, 2014 in Kalispell.
Lois Buchanan was born in Jamestown, North Dakota August 4, 1918 to Anton E. and Ella Clemens. Came to Helena in 1935 and graduated from Cathedral High School and St. Mary’s of the Mount (a commercial course in Helena). Lois was employed as a Medical Secretary and Bookkeeper for James J. McCabe, M.D. for 25 years.
Lois was a member of the Cathedral of St. Helena Parish. She supported Cathedral High as a member of the Band Mother’s Club. She was an active member of the Cathedral Liturgy Committee/Arts & Environment. Lois was also active in Camp Fire Girls and 4-H leadership. Her interests were ceramics, china painting and dolls, Lewis & Clark Humane Society, Helena China Painters and the Montana China Painters Art Association.
In 1942 Lois and Edmund C. Dolan were married, He passed away August 1962. On May 28, 1966 Lois married Harvey H. Buchanan in Kalispell. He too preceded Lois in death January 19, 1990.
Lois is survived by two daughters, Sister Ellen Marie Dolan of Omaha, Nebraska and Patricia Anne (Lee) Block of Gordon, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Connie Hoffman and Eddie Block and four great grandchildren.
A Vigil service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at Retz Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at noon at the Cathedral of Saint Helena. A reception will be held in the Brondel Center located in the lower level of the Cathedral immediately following the funeral Mass. The Rite of Committal will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25th at Resurrection Cemetery.

Dear Pat and Ellen, so sorry to hear about your mom passing. We were in Helena over the weekend and Sharon and Hank Lang told me. I stopped by to see your mom a few years ago and we had a great visit. She had just finished her treatment for breast cancer.
Think about you often and all the wonderful cherry pies you baked Pat. Will you be in Helena at all this summer to deal with your moms house, etc. We will be there a lot in July. Gary’s mom is 102 and living at Touchmark and might be moving to assisted living so we will be helping with that. Pat, please get in touch with me I would love to hear from you.

To Lois’s family. I have been sorting through some of my files and just thought to search for news of Lois, I apologize that this comes so late but wanted you to know one more person who loved Lois. I truly enjoyed the hours I spent with her; we also shared a mutual hobby of ceramics, she being the true artist.
