Adeline Hoiland Mahlum passed away on June 3rd in Boulder, Montana. She was born on August 30th, 1932 to Gudrun and Elling Hoiland in Big Timber, MT.
Adeline married Leonard Mahlum in 1952. Together they had 3 sons, Jerry, Steve, and Tim. She worked in several clerical positions before moving the family to Montana City, where they built their house that soon became a home for countless family gatherings. She enjoyed many outdoor activities including camping, gardening, snowmobiling, and picnicking. She would also make her own birthday cards, knit, and bake cookies (which were always offered to visitors), chocolate cakes, and lefse. She enjoyed traveling with her family. Some adventures throughout her life include going to Italy and Norway with her 3 sisters, Mexico, Hawaii, Branson Missouri, Texas, and California. Adeline loved playing cards and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, parents Gudrun and Elling Hoiland, two sons Jerry and Steve, brothers Elmer and Gary, and sister Jennie Luttswager. She is survived by sisters Bernice (Phil) Guemmer and Joanne (Jim) Ingram, son Tim (Deb) Mahlum, daughter’s in-law Deb Mahlum and Nancy (Dewey) Bruce, brother in-law Joe Mahlum, grandchildren Stephanie (Geoff) Higgins, Matthew (Becca) Mahlum, Ashlee (Nate) Shorten, Kellen (Kimberlie) Mahlum, Shad (Mel) Mahlum, and Teah (Noel) Mason, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. July 18th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke & Retz in Helena with a reception to follow in the social hall of the funeral home. A burial of Leonard and Adeline will follow on July 19th in Big Timber.
