In Memory Of

Alene Nangle, 76, of Helena

July 2, 1937 – June 12, 2014

Alene Delores Nangle, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, left us to join loved ones and her Lord on June 12, 2014 in Helena, MT after a three year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born to Claude and Rube Lee Spivey in Lawton, OK on July 2, 1937. She was the sixth of eight children. Growing up in the cotton fields of Texas and Oklahoma she earned the nickname “Meanie” as her older siblings carried her through the cotton patch.

At age 15 she moved to Glendive, MT to join her sister in hopes of a better life. She graduated from Glendive High School. In 1958 she met, and fell in love, with Tommy Nangle, and on May 16, 1959 they were married. They traveled throughout Montana for Tommy’s job, finally settling in Great Falls. There, they began their family, having two children, Larry Thomas and Anise Alene. In 1975 the family re-located to Helena.

Alene had many interests. She enjoyed water-skiing, golfing, and camping in the summer. She loved to dance, and get together with friends. She was a big believer in education and spent many hours with a book. She traveled within and outside of the US, with her favorite trip being to Israel. She was a proud grandmother and especially loved spending time spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was often seen with a smile, laughing, and enjoying life. To sum it up, she expressed, “I’ve had a good ride.”

Alene leaves behind to love and mourn her passing her children Larry Thomas (Jeannee) of Idaho Falls, ID. Anise (Tamer) Rask of Helena. Grandchildren Coree Nangle of Denver, CO. Conrad Nangle of Idaho Falls, ID. Travis (Emily) Rask, Tyler (Kayla) Rask, and Taylor Rask all of Helena. Great-grandchildren Case, Ryder, and Austyn of Helena. Also, nieces and nephews Marti-Anne (John) Bertrand, Bill (Tammy) Bump, and Becky Sue (Skip) White.

Preceded in death by her parents Claude and Ruby Lee Spivey, husband Thomas John Nangle, sister Betty June Bump-Rounce, and nephew Robert Bump.

I am so sorry to hear about Alene. She was a wonderful person. I worked with her many years at the Bank, and always admired her personality and beautiful smile. I remember her inviting me to Her and Thomas’s house in the valley where she would fix a wonderful salad with Fish that Thomas had caught. They were such a handsome couple and much admired. Together Again. God Bless you Alene, proud to have called you my friend. It is hard to imagine that Beautiful you gone, but never forgotten. Rest with the Angels my friend.

My sympathies to Alene’s family. The smile on her face every time she came in to my bookshop and her wide ranging interest in the written word were exceptional. She embodied the love of learning and the joys of the written word. Peace to her and the family.

    Larry & Anise,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Alene’s strength and ability to always have a smile on her face made her a treasure for us all. I could not ask for better Godparents than I had in Tommy & Alene Nangle.

    God Bless,

We remember Aunt Meanie and we think of these qualities, which made her a wonderful role model:

Joy: “Great pleasure, or happiness.” Meanie delighted in life.

Optimism: “A disposition to expect the best possible outcome, or to emphasize the most positive aspects of a situation.” Meanie always looked for the best.

Integrity: “Firm adherence to a code or standard of values; the quality or condition of being undivided.” Meanie’s thoughts, words and deeds were aligned.

Forgiveness: “To excuse a fault or an offense; to pardon.” Meanie didn’t hold a grudge. In fact, she actively pardoned any who offended her.

Humility: “Characterized by modesty; unpretentious.” Meanie had a realistic view of herself: she realized she had value as a person and she also had great modesty.

Perseverance: “A steadfast adherence to a course of action, belief or purpose.” Meanie worked hard and continued on in life, despite adversity.

Meanie made a deep and lasting impression on many people’s lives. We will continue to try and emulate her and we look forward to seeing her in our Heavenly Father’s house.

“Aunt Meanie” as I have always called her since I was a little girl in Glendive, and she has always been Aunt Meanie to me all through my life. I just had coffee and cookies with her a few weeks ago and we had such a nice time together laughing. I will miss hearing her laugh and seeing her smile. I am deeply sorry for your loss and know that she has inspired and brightened many peoples lives in one way or another; there should be people in the world like her, it would be a better place! I love you Aunt Meanie, bye! Sandy Dickey

She was my “sister” friend and will leave a deep hole in my heart as well as everyone who loved her. Our travels over the last 30 years will leave memories no others can replace.
Although she is at peace now I, like you Aniese and Larry and your families were not quite ready to see her go. She will truly be missed, Our love and prayers to you all and you know we’re here if there is anything we can do. Love Marilyn and Ray

Alene will always be in our hearts. She didn’t stay in Arizona for long, but had a big impact on us. She always had a smile on her face & was so fun to visit. When Alene was still here, we named the area on the golf course across from her house whenever it rained, “Alene’s lake” To this day, we still refer to the flooded area as such. Also, Alene showed us one of our best trips when we were able to visit her in Helena.
Even though we didn’t keep in touch all that much we always considered her a dear friend & she will be missed, but know she’s in heaven with God & her loved ones that passed away.

Our thoughts and prayers to all of the Nangle family. Remember living across the street from you all in Great Falls and the neighborhood little “gatherings” we would all have. So many fond memories and good laughs. She is now at peace. God Bless you all!!
