Alice Tatchell of Helena died on May 21, 2012.
She was born December 11, 1928, in Lothair, Montana, to Emilie and Gustav Haag.
Alice graduated from Chester High School in 1946 and worked in Havre before meeting her future husband, George Tatchell. George and Alice were married in 1948 following George’s return from Europe after WWII, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary two years before George’s death. They settled first in Bozeman, then moved to Helena in 1958, where they raised their three children.
Alice worked for 20 years at the Montana State Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services. She was a founding member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church. Alice cared deeply for her children, delighted in her grandchildren, loved to square dance with friends, and baked one mean apple cake.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Davis of Garland, Texas, two sons and their spouses, Kelly Tatchell and Lucy Robinson and Terry and Janet Tatchell, her daughter Gloria Tatchell and spouse Joe Kiely; five grandchildren, Liz Tatchell (Dan Lundquist), Brittney Tatchell, Kyle Tatchell, Lily Kiely, and Sean Kiely, and her great- grandson, Sequoia Omaste.
A memorial service will be held at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to McLaughlin Research Institute, 1520 23rd Street South, Great Falls, MT 59405, to be used for Alzheimer’s research.
