Alice Marie Waddell passed away in her home on December 21, 2013, surrounded by family. She was a warm, loving woman who will be deeply missed. Alice was born on November 7, 1944 in Oakland, California. She grew up in Gebo, Wyoming and attended Thermopolis High School. She later moved to Montana where she spent the rest of her life. She married Paul Waddell in 1977 and they had two children, Jonathan and Jennifer.
Alice’s generous spirit touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She devoted her life to her children and family, but also found time to volunteer in the community. She took pride in her work over the years as well from her days at St Peter’s Hospital, to waitressing, and then at the Carpenters Union.
Alice loved spending time with her family at home and around Helena. She traveled often to visit dear relatives in Idaho, Nevada, and Wyoming, and took many memorable vacations with her family. Over the years she had many hobbies from sewing to playing cards, bible study to NASCAR. She kept busy and always had a smile on her face. She was elated to become a grandmother in 2012 and treasured every moment.
Alice is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Paul; her son Jonathan (Bri Ann) of Santa Clara, CA; daughter Jennifer (Zach) and granddaughter Penelope of Portland, OR; brothers Don, John, Jack, Jim, and Bob; sister and best friend Arlene; and dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and wonderful friends.
A memorial service celebrating Alice’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 27 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave., Helena, MT 59602. Following the memorial service there will be a graveside service at Forestvale Cemetery, 490 Forestvale Road, Helena, MT 59602. Immediately following the graveside service there will be a luncheon held in the Reception Hall of the funeral home. Memorials in Alice’s name can be made to the Lewis & Clark Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604, or flowers may be sent to the Funeral home.
The family would like to thank the kind people of Hospice of St. Peters, and for all the support, visits, and prayers from loved ones over the past few years.

We were among so many others who benefitted from Alice’s generosity and hospitality! When my job required me to work evenings a couple nights a week, Alice gladly took my elementary aged daughter in, providing the loving care and nurture that kids need when they get home from school. And she never accepted any payment for the precious childcare she provided. It would be late in the evening when I finally got there to pick my daughter up. I was so tremendously grateful for the generosity and love Alice provided my daughter and ME during that difficult period in our lives. Now, we entrust Alice into God’s generosity and love with gratitude for the years we had her with us here in this life.

Alice has been my best friend since I was old enough to have a best friend. The hole in my heart is so huge, but it is over flowing with good memories. I don’t have even one bad memory.
she was the best sister you could have.
Today, My Idaho Vandals were ahead of her Grizzlies (basketball). I wanted to call her. She helped them out as I think they one.
I love you, Alice. Be at peace with God.
John & Betty Brewer says
Paul and family, please accept out deepest condolences. Alice was such a beautiful, loving and caring person and always saw the good in people. Even though she is not on this earth anymore, she is watching over all of you from Heaven. I pray that God will give each of you his comfort and healing. Alice will always live on in your hearts and memories. Again, our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Alice was the secretary at our Helena, MT carpenters Local 153. I would visit from time to time from our headquarters office in SeaTac/Kent, WA area. I’ll never forget her wanting me to wait a few minutes at the end of her workday before we got on the road in Helena because “traffic would be better if we waited about 10 minutes” after her shift. When we left, I said “where’s the traffic?” and we both laughed hysterically as traffic in Seattle is just terrible & so I couldn’t relate. She had the biggest heart in the world and loved you Paul; and the kids. She was so proud of you all. How fortunate I was to have known her and to have had her as my friend. God bless.
