In Memoriam: Andrew George Brtis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Andrew George Brtis, a devoted family man, distinguished veteran, and accomplished professional. Andrew passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023, at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of service, courage, and love.
Born on May 12, 1928, in Chicago, IL, Andrew was the son of Andrew and Katherine Brtis. He embarked on a journey of education, attending Marquette University, Michigan State, and USC where he laid the foundation for a life filled with remarkable achievements.
Andrew answered the call of duty, serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War. As a fighter pilot in Fighter Squadron 172, he demonstrated exceptional skill and bravery, earning the prestigious Distinguished Flying Cross in recognition of his outstanding service to his country.
After his military service, Andrew turned his attention to the aerospace and finance industry. His career took him to Los Angeles, California, where he contributed notably, leaving an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Upon retirement, Andrew chose Eugene, Oregon, as his home, appreciating the tranquility and natural beauty the area had to offer. It was in Eugene that he built cherished memories and continued to make a positive impact on the lives of those around him.
Andrew was not only a loving father but a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sister, Helen Kallal, his daughter Susan Brtis, grandchildren Brian, Sydney, Becky, and Alex, and great-grandchildren Liam, Caroline, and Mira. In addition, Andrew found companionship and joy in his long-time partner, Sally Quigley.
Though our hearts ache with the loss of Andrew, we find solace in the memories of his vibrant life, his dedication to family, and his contributions to his community and country. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service to celebrate Andrew’s life will be held on 11/18 at noon in Forestvale cemetery.
