Andy was a part of something greater than himself. He lives on in the lives of his boys.
I am writing this from the perspective of an ex-wife, but I do want to remember the best parts of Andy Vincent.
Andy was born in Coon Rapids, Minnesota to Harry “Bun” and Bonnie Vincent. He joined Clinton and Christine to complete the family. Family say that, at school he would stick up for other kids who were being picked on. He was a typical little brother with the responsibility of annoying his big sister. One time Andy was chasing her around there house. She stopped, picked up a stick and walloped him across the nose. Andy wore a scar for his misbehavior. Yes, Yes, Andy pestered his sister Christine – he rolled her car once when his mom woke from a deep sleep and knew that she should pray for him. It was 3:00am and she was on her knees and Andy walked away relatively unscathed, to his family’s relief) and Andy looked up to his big brother Clinton.
Andy, like all of us, had his bad side, but I would like to remember the good side of Andy here. On February 15th of 1995 we were married. I had my young son Paul and Andy immediately treated him as his own. When we moved to Great Falls Andy took him to school and picked him up, attended parent-teacher conferences and always kissed him goodbye and hello. We talked about behavior problems and other parenting issues and Andy showed genuine concern for Paul and tried to be a good father to him. He showed this concern even after Travis, his other son was born.
Andy didn’t believe in himself, but he was much smarter than he gave himself credit for. He liked to swim in lakes and rivers and would always make sure the kids were safe when we went to the river to swim. He had a mean volleyball serve and could shoot baskets as well.
We attended The Church of the Nazarene and Set Free Ministries, both in Great Falls, MT. We had our son Travis dedicated to the Lord by Reverend JT Coughlan. Andy always acknowledged his poor choices in life and told his kids that he did not want them following in his footsteps.
