In Memory Of

Angelo M. Charles, age 19 of Helena

May 9, 2006 – August 29, 2025

Our precious angel, Angelo Martin Charles, our wonderful gift from God, returned home to be with our Lord on Friday, August 29, 2025. At the tender age of 19 years, 3 months.

Angelo was born on May 9, 2006, to Michael Charles and Katie Mathiason. Dwight and Gloria Charles (grandparents) were blessed to adopt him later that year. Angelo was joined by his full brother Christopher in 2009 and was raised in the same home as Angelo.

Angelo was a rambunctious child always on the go. He had extreme difficulty seeing and was never without his glasses. He never complained. Angelo attended Miss Maria’s Sunshine Preschool. He attended East Helena School System and Graduated in 2024. He also attended CCD classes at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church where Miss Marie kept him on track. He was baptized and made his holy communion as well.

In 2nd grade, he was diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. This started his lifelong pain and suffering. Years of travel to Baltimore, MD, surgeries, bed rest, crutches, leg braces, wheelchairs, walkers, etc. and ended in a complete radical total hip replacement a week before his 17th birthday. We found out after surgery, his hip had died a second time which is extremely rare. Just like Angelo with his “I can do it” attitude. He never said how bad the pain was.

Angelo hated taking medication. While weaning off some medications, we became aware of his mental health issues. He was hearing voices, memory issues, seeing “shadow” people and being tormented by demons. He suffered extreme anxiety and panic attacks.

In the past 18 months, Angelo experienced debilitating migraines. The pain was excruciating. He felt defeated. He was back to bed rest in dark rooms unable to do what he wanted, which was work. Again, the treatments either did not work or were short-lived.  Angelo did not complain.

He never wanted us to worry about him. He was very kind and considerate. He loved the group of friends he was a part of, developing a special relationship with each person. He loved his family and friends very much. He will be greatly missed by all.

He had a special relationship with his grandmothers, Rosemary McGinnis and Bonnie Charles, his “Unkie” Jacob Charles, Aunt Jo-El, and Natalie. Oh, he loved his “Nat” all last selfies are with his “Nat”.

He was preceded in death by his gramps, Ron McGinnis and cousin, Eleanor Charles. Angelo never accepted gramps or baby Eli’s death. He visited their gravesites every chance he had.

Everyone who met Angelo seen how unique and quirky he was. He loved his Jeep, video games, animals, So-Con Comicon, Tanks and World War II. He enjoyed helping others, especially his family and friends. Angelo was special in so many ways and dealt with challenges most adults can’t even imagine.

He was a very special soul, a wonderful gift we experienced NOT long enough for all of us. Please find comfort, he is no longer suffering. Until we meet again our precious angel, Angelo……

I met Angelo on a residential construction project. I could tell he was in a great deal of pain but that didn’t stop him from giving it his all. I remember his interactions with his brother and it made me laugh seeing the two of them banter in a brotherly way. My condolences. Angelo will be missed.
