Anita Ilse Scherping (Trommer); beloved wife, mother, Oma, sister, and aunt, passed away unexpectedly on June 4th, 2022. Anita was born November 17th, 1946, in Memmingen, Germany to Anne Trommer (Zankl). Anita married the love of her life Tom Scherping on August 13th, 1966, and then immigrated to the United States, where she started her family with Tom with whom she had four children. Anita (along with Tom) was a lifelong entrepreneur and tried her hand at many different ventures during their almost 56 years together; from building and flipping homes, to owning a video rental store, to cutting and selling gemstones. However, Anita’s greatest enterprise of all was her family, including her four children, eleven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Her family was her world, and she was theirs.
Anita was born and raised in post-World War II Germany. After marrying Tom, she moved to the United States leaving everything and everyone she knew in Germany behind as a very young woman who couldn’t even speak English. After starting her family, she moved from Tom’s home in Minnesota to make their home in Montana where they raised their children and watched their family grow. Anita spent the last five years successfully battling Primary Peritoneal Cancer. To say that Anita was well acquainted with adversity and hardship would be an understatement. To say that she was brave, courageous, stubborn, and even downright ornery sometimes would be an even greater understatement. She was one tough cookie, as she used to say while smirking mischievously.
However, you wouldn’t easily discern or even come to know that about Anita, because all she showed to those fortunate enough to meet or spend time with her was a warm, generous, and hospitable love. Anita enjoyed nothing more than opening her home and her kitchen to anyone including family, friends, and even strangers. Anita loved to meet and make new friends and was famous for showing up with someone new with which to share her home, her love of cooking and eating good food, and her family. She was an excellent baker and cook and through her extraordinary gift of hospitality was responsible for more happiness, smiles, good times and great memories, and growing waistlines than can be counted. Her food, her home, her life was literally made with love. She was an Oma to everyone; she loved everyone, and everyone loved her…
Anita is survived by her husband Tom; her son Brian Scherping and her daughter-in-law Cyndi Scherping and their children Ben Scherping, Paul and Katlyn Scherping and their children Beau and Jack; her son David and his wife Tracy Scherping and their children Shelby and her husband Josh Nanna and their daughter Madilyn, Stefani, Samantha, and Sara; her son Eric and his wife Jessica Scherping and their children Caleb and Julia; her daughter Nicole and her husband Jason Emineth and their children, Isabella, Sophia, and Daniel; her sister Elisabeth and her husband James Mlodgenski; her brother Hermann and his wife Michaela Trommer; her sister Gabriele Hasse; and her sister Eva Trommer.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3PM Thursday, June 9th, 2022, at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery – Fort Harrison 3550 Heroes Rd, Fort Harrison, MT.
