AnnaBelle Moffitt, 101, of Cadillac, MI formerly of Townsend, MT passed away on October 7, 2011 at the Broadwater Health Center in Townsend, MT, where she has resided for the past few years.
She was born November 16, 1909 to Charles Lester Pettengill and Margaret Catherine Parker at McEwan, Humphreys, Tennessee. She was the youngest of ten children, Clarence, Jessie, Lester, Clinton, Florence, RD, Raymond, Clayton, and Lillian, who have all preceded her in death. As a young child, she came with her family to Cadillac, Michigan, where she lived for many years. She attended elementary schools and graduated from Cadillac High School in the class of 1926. She attended Teacher’s Normal School in Cadillac and Ferris College at Big Rapids, Michigan. She taught school in Cadillac, Reed City and Clare, Michigan.
On July 16, 1931 she married Everett William Moffitt. Two sons were born to that marriage, Richard (Emma) Everett of Townsend, Montana, and David (Patricia) Isaac of Idyllwild, California. She leaves four grandchildren: Lenore (Mark) Adams of Helena, MT, Daniel (Karen) Moffitt of Clancy, MT, William Moffitt of Ft. Campbell, KY, and Angela (Raymond) Zentz of Orem, UT; and 11 great-grandchildren: Duncan and Shawn Adams, Chad and Mikkell Moffitt, Alyssa Farber, Casey and Lindsey Moffitt, CeNedra, Richard, Christian and Caitlyn Zentz. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ilene (Robert) Thiel of Reed City, Michigan.
AnnaBelle was a member of the Cadillac Methodist church, of the Women’s Society of Bethany Circle and Order of Eastern Stars. She also served many years as a Red Cross volunteer at Traverse City and Cadillac. She and Everett spent the major portion of their life together in Reed City, MI, where they raised their two sons.
She celebrated her 100th birthday on Nov. 16, 2009 in Townsend.
A viewing will be held at Peterson Funeral Home, 205 E. Cass Street, Cadillac, MI and interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac, MI, beside Everett, who preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1982.
