In Memory Of

Archie Eugene Sims, age 80, of Helena, formerly of Texas

January 13, 1938 – January 2, 2019

Archie married the love of his life, Donna, on July 19, 1973, he was blessed with four daughters, twelve grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.  He had a wonderful life filled with lots of love and laughter!

Archie Eugene Sims, known simply as Papaw to most, was loved and cherished by all.  He touched every life he encountered, from the ladies at his local bank to his own great-grandchildren!  He always had a smile, a kiss on the cheek, and a hug for everyone.  Papaw was the most generous and kindhearted man, he always had the time for others and had a way of making everyone he met feel special.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army, he was a dedicated and committed man in every aspect of his life.  Papaw was filled with many stories and he loved to share them with others; his time in the military, his childhood memories and his life.  He was never at a loss for words, he would spend hours recalling his many blessings.

He loved his family and friends, but he loved God above all and that was evident in the way he lived his life.  He took great comfort in the Word of God and read his bible on a daily basis, over the years he has read the bible in its entirety many times.  One of his favorite verses can be found in 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”.  His relationship with Christ was more important to him than anything in this world and now he is in the arms of his loving Father.

Many words come to mind when we think of Papaw: Generous, Kind, Loving, Faithful, Godly, Happy, Thoughtful, Friendly, and so many more!  He was the kind of man you couldn’t help but love, he had a personality that drew you to him.  He loved to serve in his home church, Temple Baptist, where he was lovingly known as the “Candy Man”.  Papaw was never without some sort of candy in his pockets, children and adults alike would be rewarded with a smile, a hug and a sweet piece of candy.  He was a wonderful husband, a dedicated father, a loving grandfather, a fantastic great-grandfather, and an all-around amazing man.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna; daughters, Lisha, Chris, Sandy, and Linda; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom love and miss him very much!

Viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Retz Funeral Home, 315 E. 6th Ave., Helena, MT 59601. Archie was a kind, loving man that truly cared about everyone! I was one of his many “adopted daughters” and he always had a smile and a hug and kiss for me! I would see him at church on Sunday mornings in so much pain that he could barely walk, but he was there loving on his church family! The last time I saw him was in the hospital and even though his health was declining, he talked up a storm and still smiled and loved on me while I was there! I visited for a long time and he didn’t want me to leave. Take time for people you love because you never know when it will be the last time you see them!

We were blessed to call Archie and Donna our neighbors and friends for the past 13 years. Archie was a good man who would do anything for you. He will be greatly missed, but there’s no doubt he is with our Lord and Savior now and no longer in pain.

I’m sorry to hear we lost an angel today. Archie was a special person and had a way of making everyone he talked to feel special. He will be missed.
I moved out of state but always looked forward to seeing Archie and Donna when we visit Temple.
    Rest In Peace my friend.

Sweet memories of Archie and Donna and family began in Ohio to Texas. Archie enjoyed working thru our church thru our bus ministry at First Baptist Church in Sheffield Lake, Ohio. Archie and Donna were sweet loyal friends.

We were so blessed to know Archie. He was like my Dad and he counted me as one of his “daughters”. Archie always had a smile, kiss on the cheek and a hug. The four of us would have breakfast every Saturday at iHop. I loved to hear the stories of his military service and growing up. Even though he was in pain most of the time he always had time for others. He loved our church and we loved him. He will be missed but will always be in our hearts. We are praying for Donna and the family.

Archie always had a smile and a warm welcome, even on days when he wasn’t feeling so great. He always made me feel welcomed, wanted, loved, and known. He was always full of joy and the love of His Savior – and it couldn’t help but spill over onto me every time I talked with him during the 3 years I spent at Temple Baptist. He treated me like a daughter and always encouraged me to keep on serving the Lord with my clarinet playing. Donna, I am grateful for the encouragement that you were to me also while I lived in Dallas. I am praying for you and your family.

Archie was always such a blessing to me. You could see his genuine love for the Lord through his encouragement and smiles. Even if he was sick or in pain, you never knew it! You will be missed greatly, Archie. Heaven is definitely sweeter more than ever!
    Love and prayers,
    Jackie Siefert

Archie was a very special man as so many know. He had the absolute biggest heart of anybody I have ever met! I met him through our church, Temple Baptist Church, in Flower Mound Texas. He always greeted me with a smile, a Texas sized smile! He also called me angel, though I have no idea why because I certainly am not an angel. 🙂 However, his warm greeting of calling me angel touched my heart. It always made my day! I will miss Archie so much, but I know that he is with all the real angels as well as with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I will see you soon, Archie. Love, Laura Pegg aka Angel.

What a loss to those of us left on earth. Archie’s dedication was found in only a few. He will be miss by many, but none more than you, Donna. May the God of all Comfort cover you at this time and always. Keeping you on my heart and in my prayers.
