In Memory Of

Ardis Scott

June 18, 1926 – September 29, 2012

“There is love that will live forever and memories that will shine through the sorrow.”

Ardis Phyllis Falkenberg Scott’s life journey began on June 18, 1926, in Olds, Alberta. As the youngest daughter of Ferdinand and Lydia Falkenberg, Ardis grew up learning how to be resourceful, responsible and hard working, for life on the farm was never easy. Being very determined was also one of her strengths, so at 17 she left the farm to live with her sister in the big city of Edmonton. Several years later, on a blind date, she met and fell in love with Lyman Hall Scott. They were married on her birthday in 1945 and remained married until Lyman’s death in 2004. Two sons were born during their time in Edmonton, Lyman Jr. and Lee. When Lee was 6 months old, the young family moved to Helena where daughter Lynn was born.

The family spent their years growing up in the house at 520 S. Rodney, where Ardis lived until 2009. The home was the epicenter for years of family love, fun and friendships. Many wonderful meals were shared and stories told around the dining room table throughout 60 years.

As grandchildren came into her life, Ardis blossomed and found great comfort in spending time with her little ones. There was no one so loving, accepting and fun as Grandma Scott.

She would be honored if she knew how deeply she had touched each of her grandchildren’s lives. Her passing brought them great sorrow but the time they had with her will be treasured forever. She gave them unconditional love and always saw the good in each and every one of them.

Throughout her life, Ardis volunteered her time in many ways as Boy Scout and Camp Fire leader, Sunday school teacher and singer in the choir at the First Baptist Church. She was a dedicated Christian and truly loved the Lord. Her many friends at the First Baptist Church were very important to her and spanned many years of deep friendships.

Ardis retired from the Montana Highway Patrol after 28 years of service. She spent her retirement years helping with grandchildren as well as neighborhood children. Grandma Ardis always had time and love to share with many. Being the wonderful baker that she was, one could always find her apricot bars or chocolate-chip cookies on hand.

Ardis’ life journey ended on Sept. 29, 2012, and she is now in the hands of God where she is at peace and pain free. She is embracing the many loved ones who have passed on before her. Bless you Mom, Grandma and good friend. You were truly one of a kind.

Ardis is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ben; sisters, Elma, Edna and Gladys; husband, Lyman; and beloved son, Lyman Jr. She is survived by brother, Stan (Janet) of Edmonton; son, Lee (Patti) Scott of Helena; daughter, Lynn Thomas of Boise, Idaho. Grandchildren include Greg (Michelle) Scott, Derek Scott (Amy), Matthew (Daisy) Thomas, Jessica Thomas (Jake), Jodi (Christen) Carlson, Tyler (Kate) Scott, Kynslee Scott and Casey (Brian) Biggers.

Great-grandchildren, Andrew and Ella Thomas, Kaylee and Alayna Scott, Maddux Carlson, Rose Besmer, and Caroline and Isabel Biggers.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church (corner of Eighth and Warren) on Wednesday at 11 a.m. A celebration of her life will be held June 18, 2013, in Helena. The location will be announced at a later date.

I am so sorry for your loss. May “the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) comfort and soothe your heart. His promises, found in the Holy Scriptures, can offer much hope. It assures us at John 5:28,29 that our loved ones will be remembered and brought back to life in the resurrection. Please allow God’s Word to strengthen you and help you to endure this most difficult time.
