Betty K Ingersoll passed away July 12, 2019 at home surrounded by her family. She lived on this Earth for almost 93 years.
Her presence from our lives will be horribly and painfully missed. She was born September 26, 1926 at St. Peter’s Hospital when it was on 11th Avenue in Helena, MT. She was the oldest of 5 children born to Samuel Dusenbury Ingersoll and Alice Mary (Stow) Ingersoll.
Betty Ingersoll was a rare and special angel who saw the good in all persons and believed it was better to remain silent than hurt another’s feelings. She was generous to a fault and was easily adored by all who had the good fortune to meet her. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing at the Eagles Lodge.
Betty attended school at the Deaconess until the 1935 earthquakes, and then attended such schools as Bryant, Warren and Helena High School. Her favorite subjects in school were spelling and archery. She worked as an operator for the local phone company, then went on to work for the Department of Revenue and retired as a librarian at the Lewis and Clark Library. Betty gave birth to her only daughter, Julie Gaye (Ingersoll) Chriske on October 20, 1956.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who always placed her family first. Her sense of humor was a blessing, and she showed authentic emotion freely. She was always available with a hug, a listening ear, or to sit in her chair cuddling her grand-children, great grand-children, nieces and nephews.
Family picnics and all family gatherings were always something she looked forward to. She made all holidays special and when in her presence you always felt loved. She was selfless and never complained. She always knew that people were more important than material goods. She taught us all that family comes first and we must always make time for them. She was loved by many friends and community members. We will miss her desperately.
She is survived by her cats, Bella, Lilly and Chloe; granddaughter, Amy (Shane) Hall of Helena; son-in-law, Jim Chriske; great-grandchildren Jordan (Kaylee) Chriske-Hall, Julia Rowlan and Taylor Chriske-Hall all of Helena, great-great-grandson, Daxon Smith of Helena; brother, Wilmer “Herf”(Colleen) Ingersoll of Wolf Creek; sister, Linda Smith of Arizona; many beloved nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews: many great-great nieces and nephews.
Betty will be met in the hereafter by those who preceded her in death, her grandparents; parents; daughter, Julie Chriske; brother, Milton (Beverly) Ingersoll; sister, Marie Ingersoll, granddaughter, Mandi Chriske; grandson, Samuel Chriske; brother-in-law, Jack Smith.
A celebration of her life will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17th, at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will follow in the social hall of the funeral home. Please visit below to offer the family a condolence or share a memory of Betty.

Good Bye, my dear friend. I miss you already. I keep listening for your phone calls (as your special ringtone on my phone always makes me smile) and reaching for the phone. I always got my groceries on Tuesday when I went shopping for yours….haven’t gone for 2 weeks, the frig is now darn near empty. I so loved our visits, shopping trips, dinners at Perkins and the Parrott. Will always think of you when we go there. And mocha lattes from Starbucks…. 37 years we have been family and friends….we’ve talked to each other at least twice weekly and saw each other at least once a week for that entire time. My dear Mom-in-law. You hold a huge place in my heart and always will. Gentle, generous, unconditional love, I’ve learned so much from you. Hug Julie, Mandi and Sam for me…Alice too! Love you so much.
