Bob cast his last line and tied his last fly on March 31 at the VA Hospital in Helena. Bob was born, raised, and schooled in Helena. Other than a stint in the Navy, school at MSU (where he received a bachelor’s degree in business), and a year in Big Sky guiding, he lived his whole life in Helena. Bob guided scores of satisfied fishermen mostly on the Missouri River for 25 years. He also tied 2000 dozen flies in the winter (unmatched quality) which he sold to local fly shops. Bob was loved and missed by all. As Bob would toast, “here’s to us and those like us, damned few, and they’re all dead”. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.

We had many good times with Bob, having sumptuous dinners and good drinks at his home in Helena. This is very sad news to hear. Loved hearing his stories of being on the River.
