On Monday afternoon we lost a loving husband, father & grandfather. He joins his 12 siblings and parents in Heaven. Boyd Max Watts age 82 passed peacefully at home surrounded by his friends & family.
Max was born in Greenville, SC on September 17, 1933 to George W. and Maude (Wilbanks) Watts. He retired from Grimes Buick after 26 years where he made many, many friends and great people here in Helena. He served during the Korean War with the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. During service, he received a Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.
Max married the love of his life, Donna Lea Downs on September 14, 1956. To this union four children were born: Bret (Sherri), Joe (Wendy), Griff (Pam) & Beth. After retirement Max & Donna wintered in Quartzite, AZ and spent their summers at home. He enjoyed NASCAR, motorcycles, tinkering on anything with a motor, and techy gadgets.
Max is survived by his wife, Donna of 60 years, his four children, numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren and his beloved cat Tinkerbelle. He is preceded in death by his parents and 12 brothers & sisters.
Burial with Military Honors will be held at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Fort Harrison at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 25th, 2015. Following the burial, a Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church on the corner of Sierra Rd & Green Meadow followed by a reception at the church. I will miss you very much Max. I remember spending a lot of time at your house with Donna. I loved going there and loved the smell of you tobacco pipe. It smelled like cherries. I will never forget that small and all the great times my sister and I spend with you guys.
