Bret Alan Halverson, 62, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2024 in Helena, after a private battle with ALS.
Bret was born on March 5, 1962, in Missoula, to Reece and Marva Halverson. He spent his school years in Missoula and Helena and graduated from Capital High School in 1980.
Bret worked at Super Save during High School and for several years following graduation. During his time at Super Save he developed many life-long friends whom he enjoyed countless “adventures” with. He left Montana for two years to pursue a career in fiber optic installation and traveled throughout the United States, then eventually missed his home state and moved back to Helena. He had 35 years experience in the sprinkler industry, with his final position as Manager of Quality Sprinkler Co. Bret took great pride in his work and valued the friendships he made during his working years. He left an impact on countless lives throughout his years of providing green lawns to his hometown of Helena.
During his life, Bret enjoyed and excelled at numerous outdoor activities. At a young age he developed a love for fishing, hunting and horseback riding. Later he became skilled at water and snow skiing, dirt biking and golfing. He also loved watching and betting on the horse races with his Dad and friends.
Bret was an avid sports fan and a die-hard RAMs and UCLA supporter. He “passionately” watched every game. Dale Earnhart Jr. was his favorite Nascar driver and Bret was able to watch Jr. race in person many times, from CA to FL and plenty of places in between. During the warm spring and summer months he loved taking his Harley out for a ride. A few of his favorite scenic trips were; Southern Montana, Lincoln to Avon loop, Cardwell to La Hood, and five trips to bike week in Sturgis, SD. First and foremost, he loved his family and friends and could brighten the room with a story, a smile and his contagious laugh.
He is preceded in death by his father, Reece Halverson and stepfather, Donald Luraski. He is survived by his; Mother, Marva Luraski; sisters, Mareesa (Craig) Andrews, Kathy Halverson, Amie Halverson, Molly (Jon) Moore; stepbrother, Greg (Lori) Luraski; child, Sydnee Tjaden; and nieces and nephews. As well as many other cherished family and friends.
A celebration of Bret’s life will be held at Anderson Stevenson & Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave., Helena, MT 59602 on Tuesday, March 26 at 1pm.
The family of Bret would like to extend a special thanks to all the medical professionals from St. Pete’s Home Health, Hospice, Jennie (paramedic), Dave Branden, Bloome and the many friends that offered comfort and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS Association.

I attended CR Anderson Middle School and Capital High School with Bret. My brother Tom and I had many classes with Bret and I don’t ever remember running into him that he wasn’t smiling. Bret always seemed to have a great disposition and got the most out of life. Will always think of him when we were fifteen years old and trying to survive Bill Bennett’s gymnastics class as freshmen at CR Anderson. Rest in peace Bret.

Bret was a friend for 40 years and a coworker for 20 years. He always had a funny attitude , whether things were good or bad. We felt helpless for him this last year , but are glad he’s finally at peace. We have a hole in our lives , but many good memories of a great guy.
Skip Verworn says
Brett was a good man, having roomed with Brett and Randy for a few years, many adventures where had and a lot of laughs along the trail. One such journey was that he wanted to ride to Seattle and back in a Semi. Along the way, we traded spots and he drove there and back. He was so excited to learn how to drive it. RIP my old buddy!!
