Brian is a long time friend of mine. We worked together at Progress Inc. & West Mont many years. Brian was a wonderful individual. Great personaility, awesome work ethics, loved by his clients & other co-workers. Words cannot begin to express the sadness I am feeling for his unexpected exit from this earth. I have lots of good memories in the theater of my mind of our dear Brian. My condolences to Brian’s family & loved ones. Evy

I have known Brian for years and so enjoyed working with him at Helena Industries. He was a caring, loving man who had lots of friends and a good time in life. He is now with his good friend Arnie, maybe fishing for Walleye. Brian was dedicated to those he worked with throughout his career. Brian will be missed by my so many and thought of often. My heart felt condolences go out to his family. Tessy
Mardi Benson, CK Braach says
Brian was my daughter’s counselor at Helena Industries for the past twelve years. He went above and beyond his duty in his role as her counselor, sometimes bringing her home and once he even took her to the doctor after a bad seizure and attempts to get a hold of me failed. He was kind, gentle, unassuming, and pretty laid back which I think are fine qualities. At our yearly meetings I enjoyed his sense of humor and his fun and relaxing relationship he had established with CK. We will miss him so much!
CK says:
miss him. like him. he funny and make me laugh. help me out. good boss funny

Sandy and I were very saddened to learn our good brother left us. We know he has joined “mom” another beloved person much missed. I have been thinking of all the times we got together; in Lincoln, RV trips, golf, fishing, Christmas’s, birthdays, pheasant’s in Westby, time with the nephews, Super Bowls, trips to the Gulch, and the glorious trip to Minnesota to fish for walleye in Lake of the Woods. With all these stories and memories, you will never be forgotten, my brother, but you will be very much missed. Until we meet again! Cheers! (I just might go up to the “mini” malfunction junction and lay on the horn!) Thank you Brian!
Pete Hathaway says
I am shocked to learn of Brian’s passing. Brian was a good friend and strong advocate to many people with disabilites during his career. Brian was also a good man who leaves behind many friends and many found memories of good times. Condolences to his brothers and his family at Helena Industries.

Mary Carothers says
I was so shocked to hear of Brian’s passing. I worked with Brian many years ago, he was vocational and I was residential staff. We had some of the same clients, I was always happy to work with him, sometimes meetings could be rather tough, but he was so easy to deal with and had such a wonderful sense of humor, it was a joy to go to meetings. We had one particular client that could be a challenge, he loved to call my house, saying “Is Mary there?” he knew it was me as soon as I answered, and I knew I was going to have to jump into my car and go looking for this man, or run to Helena Industries for an emergency meeting, he was just trying to soften whatever it was he was about to tell me. He will be sorely missed, even though I am a long way from Montana, it makes me so sad to know, when I visit, I won’t be able to see him, again.
Bob Meyers says
Brian, I used to call you Shaggy.
You were such a good guy.
Too Young to go.

You meet a lot of people in this life. I was fortunate to have met Brian and get to know his incredible sense of being. This world is a bit dimmer with his passing but was a much brighter and better place to be because of him. Thank you Brian for being here and giving this world your love and light.
Fly high and fly free, my brother.
Mark

Christmas in Great Falls was always the best when we where at your mom’s and dons. Thank you for being that loveable uncle… I will miss you! Give your mom a hug for me!
Mike Hanshew says
Brian, a long time ago you and the kid’s in Cottage 15 taught me how to do what turned out to be my life’s work. I can still hear your keys jingling as you rushed down the hall to get someone on the bus. Wish I had thanked you sooner but I didn’t. Thanks Brian.
Jeanie Kampfer Fisher says
I haven’t seen him in years, but we were kindred souls. He was a fellow Aquarian, always smiling, with a good word for anyone. I can’t imaging a world without him in it.
Jeanie Kampfer Fisher says
‘scuse my mispelling–I can’t imagine a world without him in it–the heavens will be a better place with him there (which is of course where he went)

The ZZ’s weekend retreat is almost next door to us. The digs & ribs Brian & Don gave each other was always a laugh. We will miss you. Condolences to the family. We just found out about the memorial, we are sorry we can’t make it to share fond memories.
Mary Ellen Somppi Gilbert says
My sister left me a message that Brian had passed. I can’t believe it was his time to go. I haven’t lived close to Montana in decades and I’m sorry we haven’t met in too many years. I remember him well from when we were teenagers. My tall red headed cousin. My chance to get to know him better is gone. We will catch up on things on the other side of life when we meet again in Heaven. I will think of Brian forever as young, strong, and starting life.
Anni Druce says
Tom and I are truly going to miss Brian, our neighbor and friend. A private soul, that is until you got to know him! Many discussions over his philosophies of life, his love for the outdoors, his home away from home in Lincoln, and the mighty GRIZ. Our thoughts and prayers are with the remaining Sompi brothers, Don and Chuck (Debbie) and his beloved nephews. We were privledged to have known such a gentle man.

I have been a Case Manager with the Developmental Disabilities Program here in Helena. It was a pleasure to have known such a wonderful steward to Helena Industries. He cared deeply for those people he had a pleasure to work with. It was a pleasure having him a part of my team. I would always know that those I served would be well taken care of at Helena Industries. May God bless the family, friends, and all of the lives he touched throughout the years. I should know he touched me!
David Hanson says
Brian was always larger than life to me….well, he was a lot taller…I’ve probably had him on the weight part of large. Just happen to be going through pictures a day or two before the news. Memories going way back before we knew better….and we never knew better! Always the coolest head in the room. Thank you my friend, there is a large place in our hearts for you.
Scott & Denise Rohan-Smith says
We are so sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. As the hairiest member of the bald boys and a 1972 graduate of GFHS I didn’t really get to know Brian nearly as much as I would have liked. I admired his take on life, his easy going ways and his utter kindness to whomever he met. We will miss you and we will always remember you with fondness.
