Bruce Duane Carter, age 82, of Toston, passed away December 27, 2016 in Helena.
Bruce was born July 29, 1934 in Lansing, Michigan to Ernest and Virginia (Brauher) Carter. He grew up in Lansing and graduated high school in 1952. He married Nancy Cooke in 1956 and they had three children, Terry, Cathy and Jeff.
Bruce was a heavy equipment operator all his life. He moved to Montana and bought a ranch in Toston which he operated until his passing. He loved the great outdoors and spent countless hours fishing and hunting. His goal was to move to Alaska and buy a piece of land and construct a home from the natural resources. Bruce was a rancher and outdoorsman and he loved to work with wood.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Terry Carter; and his brother, Jack Carter. He is survived by his very special partner, Ruth Kurth of 17 years; his children, Cathy McQuay and Jeff (Nan) Carter; his sisters, Dorothy (Ray) Hitchcock and Phyllis (Bob) Britton; his sister in law, Judy Carter; grandchildren, Mike (Haleigh) McQuay, Matthew McQuay, Carly (Amos) Woods, and Alison (Tim) Schutter; great grandkids, Nathan, Maleah, Ella Carly, Uriah, and Abel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce is also remembered by his best friend, Bill Schafer.
A very special thank you to the Rose Kurth family for all their help and support all these years and a big thank you to the Rossetta Assisted Living staff for their care of Bruce during his final days.
A Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 212 Broadway, Townsend, MT with a funeral to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Coffee and cookies will be held at the funeral home after the service. Burial will be held at the Radersburg Cemetery.
