In Memory Of

Carlene J. Hatfield, age 81 of Helena

Carlene June Hatfield passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 10, 2025, in Helena, Montana, at the age of 81.

Carlene was born on February 5, 1944, in Orange, California, to Carl and Nona Obermeyer. She was the middle of three daughters, growing up in Southern California before building a rich and full life in various places she came to love—Northern California, Juneau, Alaska; Port Angeles, Washington; and finally, returning to Helena, Montana.

Carlene had a deep appreciation for nature and always gravitated toward a rural, peaceful lifestyle. She surrounded herself with horses, dogs, birds, plants, and flowers, all of which brought her immense joy. Her gentle love of animals continued throughout her life, and she leaves behind three cherished dogs—Moxie, Danny, and Jake.

Carlene’s greatest passion was her family. She raised her children with intention and heart, teaching them strong morals, discipline, joy, and the importance of staying grounded in what truly matters. Holidays and birthdays were made magical by Carlene’s special touch—she delighted in themed celebrations and thoughtful decorations, earning the nickname “Ms. Claus” for her exceptional generosity and knack for finding the perfect gifts.

She loved to talk with her family, listen to their stories, laugh, and simply be present. Her legacy is one of deep care, quiet strength, selfless love, and the ability to bring comfort and joy to those around her.

Carlene was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nona Obermeyer, and her beloved sisters, Eurece and Lois.

She is survived by her loving husband of over forty years, Charles Hatfield; her devoted children, Russell Allison, Phil Hatfield, Jolene Adams, and Paul Kuebler; her treasured grandchildren, Troy, Amber, Erik, Macy, Gray, Nick, Elisabeth, and Chloe; and her great-granddaughters, Ellie and Sadie. Her presence will also be dearly missed by her dogs and all others who knew her.

A celebration of Carlene’s life will be held on August 9th at 2pm at Liberty Baptist Church in Helena for family and friends. She will be cremated in Helena, Montana.

In honor of Carlene’s generous spirit and love of animals, memorial donations may be made to a local animal shelter or rescue of your choice.

Condolences may be shared with the family below.
