Catherine “Cathy” Gail Johnson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She left this world on September 4, 2023 at age 71. Her battle with cancer in recent years showed her determination and resilient spirit.
Cathy was born to Harry and Dorthy Belden in Lewistown Montana on March 17, 1952. As soon as she could read, stories became a cornerstone of her life, and she always had a book in hand or nearby. She followed this passion to complete her Masters in Library Sciences and serve nearly 30 years as a librarian across many public schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Earl Johnson. The two had their first date as chaperones for the Rosebud High School prom and they celebrated 45 of marriage years this summer with a dream cruise to Alaska. Together they have three children: Crystal, Robyn, and Steven, and two grandchildren: Merrick and Wesley.
Cathy loved spending time with her family. A few favorite pastimes were making Christmas cookies or crafting with her sisters, attending the Helena symphony with her husband, or taking local trips to find new landscapes to photograph.
A service celebrating Cathy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, 2024 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will follow the service in the social hall of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her honor to Lewis & Clark Library Foundation: 120 S.
