On the morning of July 19th, 2020, we had to say goodbye to an amazing Husband, Father, Grandpa, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. Charles Lee McCubbins passed away from a severe bacterial infection. He was born, February 23rd, 1956 to Vonda and Byron McCubbins, in Walla Walla Washington. Charlie was the youngest of 4, soon the family moved to Kalispell where Charlie grew up and went to school. Charlie loved his Lord Jesus Christ, hunting, fishing, riding horses, working cattle, fixing fence, going to the cabin, spending time in the “Big Hole”, camping, cutting firewood, Christmas tree hunting, milling his own wood, and just being in the out doors.
Charlie took great pride in passing his skills and love for the outdoors to his children and grandchildren. Charlie loved his family and friends and he would do anything for anyone who needed him. Charlie was as close to a perfect example in so many ways as anyone could be.
He has continued his kindness by sharing a part of himself to allow two people to gain their sight.
From the time he was 18 Charlie spent 20 years in the logging business, until numerous broken bones forced him to pick a less dangerous career in Radiology. His favorite being MRI. Charlie’s most current workplace was the MRI center in Helena.
Charlie was married to Patti Adkins and had 3 wonderful children, Nicholas, Elizabeth, and Jonathan. In 2014 Charlie and Micki were married and were later sealed in Rexburg, Idaho, Temple. Charlie seamlessly took the role as father to Micki’s children, Colt, Jeff, Ross, and Dana.
Charlie is survived by his wife Michelle McCubbins, his mom Vonda McCubbins, siblings Floyd McCubbins, Deana Lechner, Rahni McCubbins, his children Charles Nicholas McCubbins (wife Marsha), Elizabeth Leann Vig (husband Dean), Jonathan Lee McCubbins (wife Corrine), Colt Brown, Jeff Brown (wife Alia), Ross Brown (wife Carly), Dana Brown and 16 grandchildren, Hannah, Haylee, Justin, Avery, Corbin, Kateri, Amelia, Felicity, Aryana, Emmy, India, Jack, Rex, Cruz, Riley, Brooklyn and best friends Allen Bardwell, Tom Giacomo, Andy Weaver, Eugene Davis.
A Graveside Service will be Friday morning, July 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Radersburg Cemetery. A gathering will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Charlie and Micki’s home, 2885 Canyon Ferry Rd in Helena at 1:00 pm. Oh Micki! So heartbroken to hear about Charlie! He was such a great guy. We went to grade school together (I thought he was done for in third grade when he got hit in the forehead with a baseball bat). I saw him last summer at the class reunion and he and some others of us all hung out and had such a wonderful time. I am praying for you and all of his family as you navigate through this very difficult time. Big hugs from a North Idaho. Genine (McHenry) Berard

Kaye Ellis says
From Kaye (Dobrocke) Ellis. I heard the tragic news of
Charlie’s passing yesterday. I am absolutely heartsick for all of you. I never got to meet you, Micki, but I am sorry for you and your children’s loss. I knew Charlie for many years in the Columbia Falls area. He was a very kind soul. One year he and his family surprised me on Mother’s Day by planting a tree in my front yard while I was attending church. The tree is massive now and reminds me of the good times I shared with my dear friends, Patti, Nicholas, Elizabeth, and Jonathan. They graced me their love and friendship and their home was my home whenever I visited the Flathead valley. There were tons of laughs and I will forever treasure those precious days with the McCubbins family. To Charlie’s Mom…you did a wonderful job of raising your son and I thank you for sharing him with us. God bless you all. Kaye Ellis, Columbia Falls, MT.

Micki–When Alia told us about Charlie’s passing, Laura and I started talking about our experiences with your family and with Charlie especially, and the one experience I’ll always remember, because we see it every day as we go and up the stairs, is the beautifully made Christmas present Charlie made for us to frame our grandchildren’s (including the ones we share with you and Charlie!) handprints. When I look at that present I often think just how nice Charlie was to make that frame for someone so far away from Montana! It’s the measure of a man who helps others, and we are very thankful for such a treasured gift that he helped create. We hope to get out there sometime in August or September so we’ll see you then! You’re in our prayers. Pat and Laura
David Broberg says
To all of the McCubbins. I was deeply saddened to learn from Nick the passing of Charlie. We shared a logging history together and a few Linies at the Shelby Trap Club. Charlie would always build a camp fire and when we were done shooting we would gather around the fire and talk about our exploits and near misses falling timber and other stories and fabrications. When he moved to the Helena area I always was going to stop and see him, one procrastination that I will never get a do over. Charlie was fun to be with and I will always remember him with a smile. Save me a pickle up there Charlie!
Trevert Adkins says
The world lost a good one. My heart goes out to those mourning this loss.

Mickie… Sending my love and deepest sympathy to all of you. I know Charlie was such a great man. I am praying for your hearts to be comforted. ❤️
Tom Giacomo says
Charlie was a very admirable man! His love for his wife and family was undeniable! One of my greatest memories with Charlie was after hunting all day we’d come back to camp open a can of Dinty Moore Stew and then smoke a big fat fancy cigar and have a couple of cold ones around the campfire, and talk about old times and make plans for new experiences, thing about Charlie was we may not have always seen each other very often but when we did we could pick up right where we left off and just have fun from there! A great friend and will sorely be missed!
Robin says
I will miss you, big brother.
