I will miss Cheryl. Although we didn’t get together since the Covid-19 virus showed up, we saw each other quite often prior to that. We corresponded via email and she was always just “there”. We spent a lot of time enjoying our horses on various trail rides in the past. She was my husband’s “consultant” on publishing his book and maintaining a website. Cheryl was always helpful for anything we might need.

Cheryl was a volunteer grandparent in my special education classroom for several years. She had a great way to encourage students to work on math skills and write. She taught them abbreviated cribbage which encouraged students to add quickly, and build their basic skills. One year she taught a spelling class and introduced story telling in such a way that they wanted to write. At the end of the lesson she helped them type up their stories with pictures, I still have them. We mostly spoke of books we liked and history. We had some friends in common and could also laugh about something. She left volunteering due to health issues, she was missed. I am saddened by her passing and send her family love and comfort.

I imagine Cheryl riding her beloved horses over Heaven’s hills and dales. For sixteen years, we ran the Governors Cup All Breeds Horse Show together. She introduce Horse Show Computing to both the all-breeds and Arabian show circuits. All the novice riders loved her. If she had time, she was out of the office and giving them little tips and telling them how great they looked. She always found a way to make people smile and laugh. “Ribbon Pig! “, was everyone’s favorite.
I know she was very blessed by her husband, Rick. They were such a good team and he was always ready and happy to build what she or the Gov Cup wanted. She loved her big barn and we loved the new sturdy, extra long Trail bridge for the show…. until we went to load it in the trailer! ‘What in the hell were we thinking!”, she said.
I swear, the day after that show, Rick was out in the barn reshaping it into a circle so we could roll it.
I’m very saddened by Cheryl’s passing but will always treasure the great times we had.

Dear Rick and Family,
I am heartsick to learn of Cheryl’s passing. Cheryl saved my life in a very intensive website building college class. Before our class, Cheryl, being an excellent website teacher, instructed us – a student following – in the computer lab an hour before our class. With Cheryl’s instruction, I built the Helena Quilters’ Guild website.
Cheryl was an accomplished artist and sold her oil and water color paintings on her website. Cheryl was a woman law enforcement officer in Billings, Montana before there was such a thing as a women in law enforcement. She also took law classes in California and passed the California Bar. She returned to Montana and was employed in the Montana Justice Department. Recently, Cheryl became interested in carving wood and was a member in the Helena Wood Carvers; Cheryl also loved her horses and was an active member in several horse riding clubs.
Cheryl had a very brilliant mind and her passing is a great loss for so many. I am honored to have counted her as my dear friend.

Cheryl and I enjoyed a friendship over the last few years which included trail riding up through last year. We often went to Queen’s Gulch or to her favorite place, “Blue Cloud”. I enjoyed taking multiple Watercolor painting classes with her, each forcing the other out into Winter to attend. We competed jovially in woodcarving competitions. Cheryl shared her painting skill with several of our fellow woodcarvers while they completed their projects. I will miss my friend.

Heartfelt prayers to Cheryl’s family. I worked with Cheryl years ago. She displayed some of her paintings in the building and I have been lucky enough to enjoy it in my home for the past several years. She was a talented artist. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Now she can paint the skies with her beautiful talent.

I am very sad. I am Cheryl’s daughter. We never really got to know one another very well. Life is complicated and as a child I did not have a choice. I will say, the couple times I had visited her ended up bringing me a lifetime full of memories I now realize. I have read all the comments and feel I get a greater sense of who she was. It now seems to me that maybe this is how I get my artistic side as I like to paint as she did. I have not seen any of her work but would like to. This is so sad to me. Please listen and care for the ones you love and don’t let anyone get in the way of that. I feel I missed out knowing her.
