Beloved father, brother, uncle and dear friend, Chuck F. Heaney, 64 passed away at home surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer on Sunday December 28, 2014. Chuck was born on December 24, 1950 in Helena, MT. He attended Catholic school in his early years and graduated from Helena Senior High School in 1969. Straight out of high school Chuck joined the Marine Corps where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam Era.
Upon leaving the military Chuck entered the federal workforce where he worked for 30+ years running the VA Fort Harrison Warehouse. In 1973 Chuck married Glenda Woehl. They welcomed their one and only child Melissa (Heaney) Engan in 1982, who was the pride and joy of his life. He lived a rich life with family being the main focus. He was most happy when surrounded by all of his loved ones.
All throughout his life Chuck displayed a passion for the outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine, and could often be found caring for his beautiful lawn and flowers. In his younger years he boxed in an amateur boxing league. When not boxing or spending time with friends or family, Chuck could be found enjoying his passion for classic cars. If given the opportunity Chuck would have owned every one of his favorite classic cars. In later years his time was best spent enjoying his family and close friends. He shared a special bond with his year and half niece Gracie Schmidt. As times became trying with his health Gracie brought an added light to his eyes each time she visited.
Chucks sharp wit, loving demeanor, sparkling eyes and beautiful smile will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. He was one of the most courageous, strong, compassionate, and loving individual and our family was blessed to have him in our lives. Right up until the end he never lost his sense of humor, zest for life, and never failed to express his love and thanks to his family members. His daughter Melissa, and sisters Sue and Barb had the great privilege of caring for him at home. He is truly a one in a million soul that leaves behind a great void.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Evangelyn R. Heaney and James Thomas Heaney. His two brothers Thomas J. Heaney and James M. Heaney, and nephew Thomas E. Heaney. And his past mother law Helen B. Woehl. Survivors include his daughter Melissa (Chad) Engan (Great Falls). Sisters Sue (Don) Boone (Helena), Barb (Ron) Marcoux (Helena). Nephews and Nieces, James Boone (Helena), Mike (Janet) Boone (Superior), Charlie (Cynthia) Schmidt (Missoula), Jack Heaney (WA), Jim (Beth) Heaney (WA), Sherri (Shane) Maharg, Kurt (Robie) Marcoux, Vanessa Heaney (OR). Great nieces and nephews Gracie Schmidt (Missoula), Kayla Boone (Superior), Zack Boone (Bozeman), Ashley Boone (WY), Talon and Hunter Heaney (WA), Anthony and Willow Heaney (WA), Kellen and Bromley Maharg (Bozeman), Amanda Razee (OR). And dear friends Glenda Heaney (Great Falls), Mark and Kyle Semenza (Helena), Debbie Horton (Helena). As well as numerous other close friends.
A very sincere thank you to Cindy Garza, FNP, of VA Home Based Primary Care. Cindy is an incredibly special person whose care was above and beyond, we simply cannot thank you enough. A special thank you also to Rocky Mountain Hospice, especially, Brenda Pineiro and Wendy Schulenberg, RN, for all of their outstanding care and support.

It seems as though I’ve known Charlie forever both at work and at play. He and I both loved playing practical jokes on each other and whoever else we could, although he was better at it than I, but I never let him know. He really was a close friend and truly will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to Barb, Sue and family. Although I am the younger sister of one of the group that hung around together back in the day, I always had a secret crush on Chuck. I can still see him sitting in detention at Helena High, with all of the other”guys”. lol He had a definite walk and you could always pick him out because of it. I regret not getting to see him in later years and when I did try, he was too sick. You will be missed by many and some of us have great memories of you. My thoughts and prayers to your family. Laurie

Debbie (Lewis) Nevins says
First I want to give my sincere condolences to the Heaney family. I know he will be greatly missed. The last time I saw Chuck was when my sister (Laurie Chandler) and I met him at the Corner Bar and had a beer with him. We laughed about the old times and all the things that were going on at the present. He was an intricate part of my high school years and my sister is right when you talk about his walk, he had a special way about him. He got in more then one scrape at school because someone looked at him wrong or said something wrong. Fast cars and hanging out at the RB Drive-In. That was how it was then and Chuck was always there entertaining someone with his sharp wit and way with the woman. What a special guy he was and it leaves a hole in my heart because he was a part of my past. I know he had a rough time his last few years and now he is in the hands of the Lord. God Bless and watch over you and your family at this time of sorrow.

We are so sorry for Chuck’s passing on, but we are glad that he is no longer suffering and is in great peace. Our fondest memory is when we were downtown Helena with Chuck, Glenda and Melissa, and the sprinklers started on the path we were walking on and were heading directly for all of us. Chuck was doing a high two step run and we all laughed so hard, that we almost had even more water on ourselves! It is Chuck’s laugh that we will miss the most. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. May God bless you all.
