Clyde John Angove passed away on Monday, August 24, 2020 after a brief illness with his wife by his side. Clyde was born on September 27, 1934 to Edna and Julian Angove in Anaconda, Montana.
Clyde graduated from Butte High School in 1952, attended Montana School of Mines now (Montana Tech) in Butte for 2 years, was drafted into the Army, and in 1958 he began working at Morrison-Maierle, Inc. for 33 years as a drafting technician where he learned Cad systems of drafting. He then operated his own business, Cad Plotting Service for 12 years.
In 1964 he married Sally Rogers and they were married 55 years at the time of his passing. Together they had 3 children; Karen, David, and Pamela.
A big part of Clyde was passing on his love of the outdoors and sports onto his children and grandchildren. Also, his sense of humor. He would always try to make people laugh. He also liked foosball, handball, fly fishing, attending sports games (especially baseball), traveling internationally as well as in the U.S., and ping pong.
Because of his finesse of the handball court, Clyde liked to refer to himself as “Clyde the Glide”. He was very proud of his handball championships. He garnered four Helena city singles championships in 1968, 69, 70 and 76 as well as 5 second-place finishes. At State, he earned three Masters singles titles 1976, 78, 79; One Golden Masters (over 50) singles crown 1986; one Golden Masters doubles championship (with Neil Christenson of Helena in 1985); and five state runner-up trophies. At the 1978 Western Canadian Finals, the modest Angove finished second after defeating Canadian Closed National Champion Don Kulch in the semis. He placed fourth at the USHA National Masters Invitational in Minneapolis in 1979.
Clyde was also very involved with the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Helena. He also volunteered with the Lewis and Clark County Red Cross and Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation.
Clyde is preceded in death by his father Julian, mother Edna, and sister Eleanor.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sally; son David Angove, daughters Karen (Rick) Heiser; Pamela (Don) Chriske and; grandchildren: Travis (Krista) Pratt, Skyler (Denise) Angove, Rainbow Angove, Aurora Angove, Trason Dixon, Caylin Angove, and great grandchild, Alove Harper.
Graveside services took place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2020 at Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. Memorials in Clyde’s name are suggested to Prickly Pear Land Trust, 40 Lawrence Street Helena, MT 59601, or Helena Food Share, 1616 Lewis Street Helena, MT 59601. Sally and family, I am sorry for your loss. I will always remember Clyde’s sense of humor as we drove and worked on the NW Montana forest fires with the Red Cross. He definitely made the hours and miles pass faster.

Dear Sally,
We were so sad to hear of Clyde’s passing. We have all lost a good friend. Remembering the many times together on our shared art trips and his sense of humor kept us from taking ourselves quite so seriously as we scampered around with our numerous duties. Clay especially enjoyed their shared enthusiasm for sports and fishing. On our trip to Lewistown where we enjoyed the train ride, Clyde as usual kept a light and fun note on the experience. We will all miss our dear friend, he was a good and special person. Sending our love and prayers.

Aunt Sally and Family,
I am sad to hear of Uncle Clyde’s passing but am reassured to know that he was surrounded by the love of his dear family in his final days. I’ll always remember him teaching me to fly fish many years ago, and I’ll always remember his wonderful sense of humor. He was a special man with a great big heart.

Sally and Family,
I am so sad to hear of Clyde’s passing and know you are in my prayers and thoughts. He and I always had this inside joke about “Bonnie and Clyde.” He was such a great and funny man and will be missed very much.

Sally and Family,
It was a joy for me to serve as your pastor for 15 years. I enjoyed spending time with Clyde as Men’s Fellowship gathering. My strongest memory was of his leadership and expertise when he redesigned the front entries to the church building. It was a big project, but he came up with a practical design that made the building more welcoming and useful and affordable. I have wonderful memories of Clyde and I am sure that the Lord has greeted him with the words “Well done, good and faithful servant!”

Good men are hard to find let alone to lose one. Clyde was a good guy–good to his family, good to his friends and good to others. His spot in the stands may be vacant but his presence is felt by all those around him.

I began my career at the Helena Fire Department in 1972. At that time it was expected that you learn to play Handball, although not required. We had some pretty good players at the department, including a state champion. Clyde was a regular at the Fire Dept. handball court, usually playing with friends or the better F.D. handball players. I loved to watch him play, and on rare occasions he invited me to a game. Although I was never his caliber of player, he always made it a point to make a match out of it, with the slight possibility that I might sneek out a win. Never did, but he always made it a “fun” game! I haven’t seen him in over 20 years, but fondly remember his prowess in the “Court”. May the “Lord” bless and keep him!

Sally, I was sorry to hear that Clyde. While I only met Clyde briefly, I know this leaves a big hole in your life and will be a long adjustment after those many years together. I’m also thinking especially of Dave and Sky. Condolences to all your family. I’m sorry that I didn’t see the obituary until too late to attend the service, but know that I hold you in my heart. Suzy
Sally R. Angove says
We want to say thank you to all who attended Clyde’s service. Because of another service immediately after his, I’m truly sorry I wasn’t able to greet all of you personally. Our family was truly amazed at the number of people who honored him with their presence.

Sally and family, Heartfelt sympathy on the loss of uncle Clyde. It’s hard to say goodbye – so many life-long memories – summer visits with Clyde and grandma, family gatherings, shared earthquakes – Hebgen Lake in ’59 (I was thrown off a bed in Butte), and Loma Prieta in ’89 (Clyde at S.F. Candlestick Park, Giant’s game), harrowing 4-wheeling to Clyde’s favorite fishing spots, a smattering of visits between MT and CA. I’ll always remember Clyde as thoughtful and caring; always with good cheer, quiet humor, and twinkling eyes. My mom Eleanor, his sister, was always very proud of Clyde – praying Clyde is with her now. Much healing and hugs to all.
