In Memory Of

Colby Hurt, age 28, of Helena

August 18, 1989 – May 14, 2018

Colby “Colby Cat” “King Colby” “Queso Grande” Jason Hurt

On the evening of May 14, 2018, Colby passed away after a car accident near

Jordan, MT. Colby was 28 years young.

Colby was born in Salt Lake City, UT on August 18, 1989 of Suzanne Brady Severson.

Colby graduated from Capital High School in 2007, where he excelled and dominated on the wrestling mat, football field, and in the weight room.

From 2007-2010, Colby proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he completed three tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. Colby was a helicopter crew chief with the Ugly Angels.

Semper Fidelis

Colby was a floor hand for Nabors Drilling in North Dakota. He loved hard work and took pride in it.

Colby was always active. He said “Work Hard, Play Hard” and he did exactly that. He loved the outdoors, camping, and hiking. He rode horses and even a bull once! He enjoyed snowboarding in the cold seasons and jumping from cliffs and ropes into Montana lakes in the warm ones. He was very proud of his tattoos and definitely enjoyed showing them off. Colby liked to work out and be healthy. He was a great cook and loved hot sauce and everything spicy! He liked playing video games and watching movies as well as driving his Subaru WRX STI and his motor cycle. Colby could always be seen in bright and florescent colors, reflecting his personality and energy onto everyone he came in contact with.

He is survived by his life partner Ashley Glover, his son Xander Hurt, Parents DeEtta and Gene Hurt, Suzanne Brady Severson (Daryll Severson), Grandparents, Sharon and Bill Young, Sisters LeeAnn Hurt (Elizabeth, Jacquelynn, and Olivia), Ashley Hurt (Cameron), LaRae Hurt (Braten, Landon, and Charlie), Marli Leyba (Keira Eve, Sylla, Olivia, and Jolie), Ariel Anderson, and brothers Braden Duncan and Robbie Farnsworth.

You have been in my prayers, DeEtta, and family, since I heard you had lost your son. I am so sorry! He sounds like he was a wonderful young man! He will not be forgotten. Those cherished memories will help to get you thru, along with leaning on God, and your many friends. Please include me in this! Much love. Patty Harrington.

One thing that I noticed that was missing from the obituary was his passion for cooking. Colby and my daughter Ashley, his spouse, used to cook some of the best meals together. Colby loved to bring out the flavors in the meat and really baked a great cheesecake. Colby never did anything half way. Colby also wanted to start his own construction company. Colby always felt that he cared more about getting the job done well and quick than the owners of the construction company he was working for and really cared about the end result. This passion carried through everything that Colby did. Colby was very proud to have been a Marine and stood tall as he served three tours, even though some of the memories of what he had been through haunted him. What we saw in Colby was a young man looking to overcome the obstacles he had been through in his life time, who was proud to have become a father and a husband as was realized in their last weekend together. Xander looks just like Colby when Colby was just a year old and if Xander has half the passion in his life and his accomplishments that Colby did, he will walk in his father’s footsteps. We were only lucky enough to have had Colby in our lives for the past six years, but in that time we saw the passion and love Colby had for our daughter Ashley. Sure they had their struggles just as most married couples do, but their love for each other had a fire and passion that is rarely seen these days. They could talk for hours and hours and never grow tired. We will miss the chance to see what Colby with Ashley and Xander by his side, what they could have accomplished in this lifetime. We will miss you Colby, your laugh, sense of humor and your smile. Always in our thoughts…..Kathy and Dan Glover

Colby was a student in my sixth grade class. I don’t remember many of the thousands I taught, but I will always remember Colby’s zest for life. I was lucky to have him in class. I am so very sorry for your loss. May your memories of this young man bring you some comfort and peace.
