Daniel “Dan” Trent Schenk, our beloved son, father, brother, and friend, born on June 14, 1967, in Kellogg, Idaho, passed away at his home in Helena, Montana, on November 26, 2011.
Dan worked in many professions, traveled and lived in many places over the years. One of his favorite jobs was welding. Dan’s love was for his family and family gatherings, playing games, visiting, and eating together. He was always very respectful and full of fun and many stories. Dan took pride in being able to make us laugh. He loved whole-heartedly and unconditionally. He was so happy with his daughter, Jordyn, and was completely enthralled with his grandson, Lucas. Dan also loved hunting, fishing, golf (especially our annual mini-golf tournaments during our family reunions), four-wheeling, and the great outdoors.
Dan was our dreamer, our story-teller, our dear friend, with grand plans and schemes. We are so devastated that they did not all come true for him. Dan will be greatly missed so much by everyone, every day.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his niece Teigan Schenk, and second cousin, Tawnee Jo Heckman. Dan is survived by his daughter, Jordyn Petersen, and grandson, Lucas Daniel Petersen of Helena; his parents, Hugh and Vicki Jenks of Helena; brothers, Darrell Schenk of Columbia Falls, Darrin Schenk of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Waid (Lynn) Jenks of Helena; sisters Debbie (Bob) Austin of Helena, and Michelle (Richard) Bourne of Diamond Head, Mississippi; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.
There will be a memorial service held at the Augusta Community Church, 219 Laura St., Augusta, Montana, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011. An internment procession will follow the service at the Augusta Cemetery. There will be refreshments at the Augusta Community Church following the internment. All are welcome to join us in remembering Dan, sharing stories and fond memories.
It is a deep mystery,
This matter of life and death…
That the same person
Who brought us a thousand joys,
Can one day leave us shedding a thousand tears…
So suddenly, sometimes
That we grope blindly for words left unspoken,
And for the hug we needed to give,
To say goodbye.
And we wonder,
How this thread that holds us all to life
Can be so thin and fragile…
Until one day, we find the courage to accept
That the living aren’t meant to understand death,
Only to celebrate life,
And to remember that the only real death
Is forgetting

Dan I only knew you for 6 months, but in that time you became like a big brother I never really had. You were always there when I needed you and give me advice, most good, and some bad 🙂 but you always made time to listen to me. You had a heart the size of Texas and a smile to match. You were my drinking buddy and I wish we could have one more beer and I could watch you do your silly crazy party dance that u do one more time. I miss you Dan, and I love you buddy. See you on the other side.
