Darrell P. “Doc” Holliday went to meet our Lord on April 23, 2012 while at home. He was 83. Doc was born 20 September 1928 on a farm in Edmond, West Virginia, where he lived with his parents, Earl Argyle and Mary Lavelet Rogers Holliday, five brothers and two sisters, until he joined the United States Air Force in 1950. He served honorably for 22 years and was awarded the bronze star for his service in Vietnam. Doc married his first wife, Chizuko Ito in Japan and had a son, Billy Keith Holliday. He retired from the Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colorado and moved to Helena, Montana several years later. In 1979, he moved to Lincoln, Montana to work as a bartender and met his second wife, Mary O. Corrigan. They were married New Year’s Eve 1997.
Doc was known by many and loved by all who knew him. He was a wonderful story teller and had a million and one jokes for every occasion. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching old westerns, setting at the office telling jokes, wood working and prospecting for gold. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife, Mary O. Holliday of Lincoln, MT; son, Billy Keith Holliday; daughter-in-law, Cheryle Holliday of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Laura Agnes “Aggie” Anderson of Sandusky, OH and Mildred Ann “Millie” Alexander, brother-in-law, Tom Alexander of Huron, OH; three step-children, Larry Strong, daughter-in-law, Bonnie Strong of Victor, MT, Michelle Strong of Lincoln, MT and Rebecca Gilchrist of Missoula, MT; grandchildren, Tiffany Holliday of Los Angeles, CA, Chelsea Severs of Chico, CA, Michael Floyd of Missoula, MT, Cullon White of Lincoln, MT, Aidan Sinclair of Florence, MT, Larrie Clark of Salt Lake City, UT, Brianna Clark of Salt Lake City, UT, Erika Strong of Victor, Zoey Strong of Victor, MT and Cassie Theis of Helena, MT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard G. Holliday of Sandusky, OH, Estel Holliday of Edmond, WV, Harold Holliday of Pasadina, CA, Robert Holliday of Helena, MT, and Samuel Holliday of Edmond, WV; and stepson, Nathan Mann of Lincoln, MT.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19th, 2012 at Lincoln Community Hall. Burial will be at Old Lincoln Gulch Cemetery at a later date.
