Darvin R. Barnes, age 84, a devoted Green Bay Packers fan and hefeweizen drinker, sadly left our world on July 13, 2024, after a life well-lived.
Born in Wolf Point, Montana, he graduated from Wolf Point High School, attended the University of Minnesota, served in the Army, and ended up in Helena, where he met the love of his life, Jan. He was an avid skier and volunteer for the Belmont Ski Patrol, optimistic fisherman, ATV enthusiast, expert camper and whitewater rafter, and in between adventures, he worked for the State of Montana.
He is survived by his wife Jan, his children Gretchen, Byron (and Crystal), and Gregg (and Michele), and his grandchildren Shaylyn (and Dillon), Tylee, Jayda, Braxtyn, and Devin as well as his two granddogs Laila and Ruby. He wanted no fuss or funeral, but wouldn’t mind if you had a beer or other beverage in his memory.
Condolences in memory of Darvin can be shared at www.aswfuneralhome.com. Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home is entrusted with Darvin’s care.

I read a beautiful quote in a book once that said, “Death begins when no one can dream of you any longer”, keep Darvin in your deams. Thinking about you all.
Kerry Hughes says
Gretchen,
I’m very sorry to hear about your dad. I remember coming over to your home when we were in grade school and your dad was always kind and friendly. The years have gone by so quickly, but I remember your sweet family. May the Lord comfort you and give you strength during this difficult time.
Take care,
Kerry (Ware) Hughes

Jan and kids, Mike and I are sad to read of the loss of Darwin. We go back with you and Darwin many years. Mike remembers moose hunting with him. I remember when Gretchen became a part of your family. We would like to attend a service or remembrance of him if there is one planned. Dark was one year older than Mike and I. Sincerely, Judy and Mike Trevor

Jan and family, Pete and I are so sorry to hear about Darvin’s passing. The few times we were around him, he was always found him so kind and gracious. I’ll be toasting him later with my fave Hefeweizen! You are in our thoughts and prayers, Pete and Marlyn MacKenzie

Rick O’Connell says
I’ll definitely have a beer in your memory Darvin. Maybe two. One at the ski hill and one at the Marysville House. Miss your smile.

So sorry for your loss. I was a new hire at the Montana Department of Highways and shared an office space with Darvin in the summer of 1974. He was always congenial and full of good cheer. He made working there more enjoyable. Think snow!!!
