David was born on July 10, 1954, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kenneth Leo Christensen and Thelma Viola Wade. As the only boy amidst three sisters, David quickly learned the dynamics of a household and grew up to be a protective brother, a quality that would later manifest in his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
In 1974, David embarked on a mission to Peru for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. For two years, he immersed himself in a culture far from home, building connections, strengthening his faith, and imparting his teachings.
Upon his return, David continued to cultivate a life filled with love and dedication. He was married to Kathleen Borg Christensen, and was blessed with six children – Jacob, Chad, Ashley, Chardel, Cami, and Landon. He would always beam with pride whenever he talked about their work ethic, a testament to both his influence and their determination.
David’s love for adventure led him on numerous escapades. The Bob Marshall Wilderness and Alaska held a special place in his heart, often seeking what was beyond the horizon. As an avid hunter, snowmobiler, backcountry horseman, and an indomitable outdoorsman, he believed in embracing the world and its wonders head-on. He was the embodiment of a fearless adventurer, always wondering what lay over the next ridge.
In the midst of all his outdoor pursuits, David never wavered from his distinct style, always clad in ironed collared shirts and blue Levi’s, even when snowmobiling. The pocket screwdriver, pen, and silver dollar belt were fixtures that represented his unique essence.
He was a voracious reader, with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. His intelligence was matched by his inquisitiveness about people and their stories. To David, everyone had a tale worth listening to. Whether it was a profound conversation, a check in with a close friend, or the latest update about football and Pokémon from his grandsons, David listened with unwavering attention.
His brutal honesty was tempered by his genuine care for others and animals. He had a love for labrador retrievers, perhaps it was their loyal hearts that bonded them closely together. He always had a black lab by his side. As a carpenter, business owner, and entrepreneur, David was known for his impeccable work ethic and integrity. Always being prepared and showing up 15 minutes early to everything was David’s mantra, illustrating his respect for others’ time and his own commitment.
David was decisive and had strong feelings about things he loved. He had a love for Coke, never spaghetti. His dessert choices leaned strongly towards white cake, steering clear of anything chocolate and branding ice cream as “dead milk.” But these quirks, these preferences, made David who he was – a man who was certain in his choices, who lived decisively and never looked back.
Rest in peace, David. Your spirit of adventure, your love for life, and your dedication to those you loved will forever be remembered and cherished.
