David Paul Bock 11-17-1943 to 5-8-2018
Dave passed away May 8, 2018 after a heart attack. Dave was born in Anaconda, MT on November 17th, 1943 to Emmett Bock Sr. and Bernice Bock. He grew up in Anaconda attending grade school and graduating from Anaconda High School in 1963. Dave started his working career at age 13, setting bowling pins in a bowling alley. His high school years he spent summers working on the ranch of a family friend, mowing hay, fixing fences and working on machinery. After graduation he went to work for his uncle Winslow Fritzlan at his lumber yard in Alaska. In 1964 he followed his brother Leonard’s footsteps and joined the Montana Army National Guard. When returning from basic training he worked for the Anaconda Company. June 21st of 1965 he married Carol Near of Butte, a union which lasted 1 month short of 53 years. His first son Kevin was born in 1966 in Anaconda. In 1968 Dave accepted a position in Helena as a mechanic with MANG. Son Brian was born in 1974 completing the family. Dave retired from both his civilian position and military position after 40 years in 2003.
Dave loved flying so he and Carol bought a plane in 1984 and both became private pilots. They continued flying until they sold the plane in 2004.
The year 1988 brought them to the farm on Spokane Creek Road, raising cows, horses and hay. He loved living in the country, farming and particularly the wonderful community of people he moved into.
Dave is survived by his wife Carol, son Brian, daughter-in-law Traci, their children Brice and Alisa, granddaughter Melanie her fiancé Drew, grandson Josh granddaughter-in-law Kayla and great-grandson Aiden with a second great grandchild due in September, sister Darlene (David) McNay, sisters-in-law; Lila Bock, Marie Engstedt, Linda (Greg) Vandersnick; brother-in-law Tim (Pat) Near; mother-in-law Elizabeth Hemen; his farming buddy Mark Sharkey; extended family members and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son Kevin in 2017, his parents, brothers Emmett Jr. Leonard, brothers-in-law Rick Near and Carl Engstedt.
The family would like to thank Bob Drake and the EMT volunteers of the Tri-Lakes Fire Department for their quick response and valiant effort to save Dave when he had his heart attack, Larry Weaver for his support to Mom until the family could get here.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will follow the service in the social hall of the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery in Butte.
