On the afternoon of April 9, 2019, Diane passed away surrounded by her family at St. Peter’s Hospital Helena, MT as a result of injuries from a fall. Diane was 81 years old.
Diane was born to her birthmother, Goldie Mattingly in Spokane, WA on February 9, 1938. At seven months she was adopted by William and Edna Wittstruck from Spokane.
Diane attended Spokane Public Schools and graduated from North Central High School in 1956. She later married Larry Seed and they had two children, son Daniel and daughter Shannon. They later divorced.
She met the love of her life in William “Bill” Divine and were married July 30, 1969 in Coeur d’Alene ID. With that union they became a larger family and moved to Montana. Bill and Diane raised their children in East Helena in a warm home that often welcomed family and friends.
Diane worked as a secretary for several places in Helena including Helena High School and ASARCO in East Helena until the death of her husband in 1993. She later moved to their cabin in Lincoln MT where she lived for 17 years before moving back to Helena to be closer to family.
Diane was an avid reader and loved sewing, gardening, camping and holidays with family. The Divine household was a special place to share family time whether relaxing by the pool or sharing a meal which hopefully included mom’s homemade dinner rolls.
She was preceded in death by: her husband William Divine, son Vincent Divine, daughter Shirley Sutheimer and grandson Steven Divine.
Diane is survived by: son Steve (Sherry) Divine, son Daniel (Cheri) Seed, and daughter Shannon Thomas. Her surviving grandchildren include: Brittany Divine, Brennan (Melina) Divine, Ryan (Bekah) Sutheimer, Kasie (Michael) Wilcox, Nick Thomas, Shanelle (Justin) Forty, Camille Seed, Darren Divine, Sheanah Divine-Henry, Zach Raymond and Mary Raymond. She also is survived by son-in-law Glen Sutheimer, daughter-in-law Mindy Ames-Divine, sister-in-law Janet Wittstruck, brother and sister-in law Pat and Darlene Divine, sister-in-law Virginia Hayes, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials to honor Diane are suggested to Helena Chapter of Intermountain Therapy Animals PO Box 5714, Helena MT 59604 or an organization of donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank Diane’s healthcare providers and the special people at Touchmark who cared for her as their own.
