Dianne Merritt – McKnight, 60, of Helena, died of health complications Tuesday, November 29 at her home. Cremation took place under the direction of Anderson Stevenson Wilke Crematory.
Her memorial Service will be 2:00PM Friday, December 9, 2011 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home.
Dianne was born July 21, 1951, in Helena, the daughter of Don and Meg Merritt. Dianne graduated with Honors from Helena High School in 1969. Following high school, Dianne attended one year at Montana State University. College was not her calling so she chose a different path and enrolled in Flight Attendant Training in Denver, Colorado. Upon completion of Flight Attendant Training, the airline went on strike leaving her unemployed. Determined to obtain a vocation, Dianne made the decision to join the Air Force. Dianne received an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force and returned to Helena. She married Jeff Howard but later divorced. Dianne then moved to Austin, Texas and was employed with State Government for three years. She returned to Helena where she married Bill McKnight but later divorced. Dianne was employed at Department of Revenue, Liquor Division for a number of years until she was involved in a serious car accident in 1984. As a result of that accident, Dianne was not able to return to work and found enjoyment spending time with her family and caring for her elderly parents. She loved baking, knitting, taking care of her mother’s roses, and giving treats to dogs that would visit.
Dianne is preceded in death by her parent’s Don and Meg Merritt. Survivors include her siblings: Donna (Keith) Hodges; Darlene Hall; Don (Jackie) Merritt and numerous nieces and nephews
Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Hospital Cancer Treatment Center. Condolences may be posted online at www.aswfuneralhome.com
