Don Hulett died Saturday, January 31, 2015.
Born August 1, 1937 in Havre, MT, Don was raised in northern Montana and Alaska. He married Cynthia Stipe in December of 1959, settled in Bozeman, MT and had five children. Teresa, husband Greg Lehman, of Clyde Park, MT; Darlene, husband Rick DeMato of Helena, MT; Arlene Green of Post Falls, ID; Ed, wife Donna Hulett of Montana City, MT; and Tim, wife Tracy Hulett of Bullhead City, AZ.
He later moved to Helena where he married Barb Wales in August of 1976. She has two daughters, Carri, husband Walt Whitman of Rockford, WA; and Wendy Kumpula of Billings, MT.
Don worked for Mountain Bell, HF Johnson Fuel Lines, Premier Homes, and Northern Tank Lines. Don and Barb started East Valley Trucking in the late 70’s which he ran until 2011, selling the business to Ed and Donna Hulett. Don and Barb also opened East Side Fuel Stop in the late 90’s, still being run by his wife.
Don enjoyed many past-times; hunting, fishing, boating, camping, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and long Sunday drives. His real passion was Kenworth trucks and sharing a cold beer at the end of a long day with friends, his dogs always in tow.
Don was well known for his unique wit and extensive knowledge of Montana history, guns, and shooting. Friends and family alike have stories to tell about travels they’ve shared on 18 wheels with a man who will be missed by many.
Don is survived by his wife, Barb and two younger brothers, Morgan and Allen along with his 7 children, 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Margaret Hulett, who passed away in 1955 and 1999.
A special thanks to Dr. Thomas and his wonderful staff at the clinic and the Oncology Floor for their care and compassion.
The family invites you to join them for a casual banquet in celebration of Don’s life on Saturday, February 7th at 1:00 at Helena Valley Community Center.

We have lost a wonderful man and a great friend. We will miss trying to catch the biggest fish, emptying beer cans, and telling stories around the campfire. Don was truly “One of a kind.”

Barb & Family: I was very surprised & sorry to read about Don’s passing. My dad, Sam, & I have known Don for over 50 years!! I have enjoyed many B/S sessions at the MMCA
annual banquets with him before I sold out in 2000 & retired. He was a good man & associate, I will miss him very much!!
Sarah Bauer and Eric Boysen says
Don was one of the most fair and generous men we have known. He was a “salt of the earth” kind of person and very kind. He loaned us his flat bed trailer to haul hay more than one time, and when we borrowed his wood splitter he insisted we keep it as long as needed since he didn’t use it much. As an employer he was one of the best. He treated people as he would want to be treated. We will miss Don tremendously.
Dean & Roberta Berkey says
Barb & Family,
Don was a very special man & a better friend. He will be greatly missed. What started out as a business relationship, quickly turned to so much more. I will miss the long conversations about trucks, no matter how far apart we were. The friendship of the Hulett Family is something that I treasure very much.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you always.
